i haven't used tomtom really, but my impression is that the navigon software has got some nice features...
haven't found how to put speed camera dabatases on there yet...
I've been looking into adding (mass) poi's in navigon and I think it can be done, but only if you purchase additional software (poi finder) from them. Even then you can't add warnings when approaching poi's (eg speed cameras). It's a big downfall of the navigon software, which has the one advantage over tom tom of using free to air traffic info via TMC (if you purchase a tmc receiver) and automatically re-routing where necessary. You can get traffic info with tom tom but you have to pay subs and link it up to your mobile.
I'd have to agree that on balance tom tom software is best for me because I need speed camera locations.
Anybody with experience of adding poi's in navigon and using tmc I'd be interested to hear. Also, any possible way to use tmc with tom tom? Running both Navigon and tom tom together could be a (messy) solution, but I'd need a bigger sd card....0 -
borgs wrote:Don't see why not. Copy all the files from the 256mb card onto your 1GB card and use that instead. That is what I'm doing.
Q. Is anyone having strange behaviour of the power on button? Holding the button for just over a second is meant to turn the background light off but still allow the playing of music etc. I'm finding sometimes it does work but mostly it doesn't. And, if I hold it down a little too long it does a soft reset - which isn't meant to happen really. I've tried some forums but all the ones I try seem to be having problems at the moment.
what's the difference between an sd memory card and a mm memory card? Apparently it will take both, but which is the best to buy?0 -

Dosent really matter, ive just got a 1gb SD Viking from Amazon for £11.95 delivered , been using a 512mb but wanted a bigger card to add some MP3's and games for when im using it while away from home.0 -
deanos wrote:Just tried this and it does the same
What i have done and this is good for using on the sat nav too when the screen gets too bright at night , is program one of the front buttons for "Display Lighting" then just press the button and dim the backlight that way
Cheers Deanos I've done the same for now. Dimming the backlight seems to be safer than trying to turn the backlight off. I use tcpmp for music and video and, after mapping a hardware button to turn the screen off, that also had problems. I'll have a look for an app that can toggle it - I'll let you know if I find one that works.
yebaws: I always buy SD myself but to be honest I couldn't really give you a decent reason. There is a lock on the card but to be honest it doesn't have much use in a pocketPC environment. Not sure if its more robust or not. There are mmcplus cards now up to about 4gb but pocketPcs can be very fussy about memory. I use a 2Gb mini-SD (in adapter) in my own Qtek S110 pocketPC phone and that allows me to have all my mapping, podcasts, some music and videos etc. By the way I chose mini-SD as most new pocketPC phones seem to be going that route. Then again nothing is futureproof.0 -

Still available at Gultronics for £169.20, just follow link.
I can confirm what others have posted here, that Sandisk SDIO WiFi card with 256mb RAM (SDWSDB-256) is recognised and works straight out of the box.
I'm really pleased with this bit of kit. For a casual user like me it is very cost effective.0 -

Does anyone know where I can get plug in combined WiFi adaptor and extra RAM or name of company that makes them???
biggeoffic can you confirm the Gultronics ones come with the Car Kit as I was wondering as well like snj.0 -
Yep, comes with car kit (cradle, bendy arm with plastic sucker thingy for w'screen, lead for plugging into cigar lighter and a sticky back disc for mounting elswhere.)
My only criticism of it is lack of manual for PDA. However, that can be found on F-S site.0 -

There is also a pdf manual hidden away on the cd0
