What Service Pack have you installed? It should be the latest, which is Service Pack 3. Right click on My Computer then Properties to find out.
One of the major security features in Windows that mitigates the threat of the recent widely publicised vulnerability is enabled by default in Internet Explorer 8, so it would be wise to ensure you are fully protected..have now given up smoking since feb 13th 2014 loving the money I'm saving0 -

Upgrade to IE 8,
Try it for a while
if you don't want/like it then just uninstall it ( usual way) and you will revert back to IE 70 -
I would upgrade to IE8, but as mentioned you could try Firefox, there are hundreds of add-ons so you can personalise it more and there are plenty of security add-ons as well. You could also try Safari (a very good browser from Apple). I always think it is a good idea to have a couple of different browsers just in case you get a virus in IE that stops you from using the net properly (by constantly directing you to phishing sites for example) you can then use the other browser to get help from forums etc.It said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC0

IE8 is faster, and safer than IE 7 or 6. It is also compatible with more sites than any other browser. If you are concerned with the way IE 8 will interact with sites you are visiting, you will be pleased to hear about a new feature that comes with IE 8 called Compatibility Mode which allows you to view sites as they would appear in IE 6 or IE 7, with the added security and speed of IE 8.

I have found IE8 to be hopelessly slow and buggy. I like to have lots and lots of tabs open and sooner or later IE8 always seizes up and has to be terminated with the task manager.
I "upgraded" it to Opera, which is much better.
Incidentally, Firefox has been reported as being one of the worst mainstream programs in existence as regards security vulnerabilities, the implication being that the only reason there are fewer known problems with Firefox than with IE is that hackers can't be bothered exploiting the less-used browsers when nearly everyone uses IE. But I don't like Firefox anyway, it always looks to me like an unfinished 6th-form project.Je suis Charlie.0 -

You should be able to get it through Windows Update.
Your favourites should be ok, although you should export them to a seperate file just incase anything happens during the upgrade.0 -

No need to uninstall your previous version; the new version will over-write the previous0
