Microsoft are suggesting that the recent China/Google security loopholes have been 'fixed' by upgrading to version IE 8; but even still I would not bother with IE. My preference is always Firefox with the NoScript add-on. ;)

"According to a parliamentary question last year, the Ministry of Defence currently has 300,000 machines worldwide running Internet Explorer 6 - the browser used in the attack - "and at the current time does not have a requirement to move to an updated version"."

Forgot to add: I would not use IE even if the Chinese government promised to pay me :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

  • What operating system are you using, XP or Vista?

8 is an improvement over 7, so you stand to lose nothing in upgrading.

ask the Germans or the French

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8465038.stm

France has echoed calls by the German government for web users to find an alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE) to protect security.
Certa, a government agency that oversees cyber threats, warned against using all versions of the web browser.
Germany warned users on Friday after malicious code - implicated in attacks on Google - was published online.

    Hi
Some people prefer to use other browsers such as Firefox or Opera.
For personal computer users it's really just a matter of taste.

If you haven't had problems with IE then stay with it.
If you'd like to try something different you can install Firefox as well.
    It's up to you.

What Service Pack have you installed? It should be the latest, which is Service Pack 3. Right click on My Computer then Properties to find out.

One of the major security features in Windows that mitigates the threat of the recent widely publicised vulnerability is enabled by default in Internet Explorer 8, so it would be wise to ensure you are fully protected..
