What are snails like pal? Just read the river cottage book and thats the only thing i don't fancy.
In my garden - and its not big - I have these herbs:
    chives
    bay
    thai basil
    oregano
    sage
    thyme
    lemon thyme
    rosemary
    mint (2 types)
I will probably do some parsley but I am not bad about that. Most of these are established plants, even the chives re-plant themselves!
I would say GROW GROW GROW as many as you can, make sure you put mint in a bucket unless you want it to grow everywhere.
Get seeds from poundland - even the 'fresh' herb plants from supermarkets are a huge rip off, and they have a sell buy date! How can you put a date on a supposedly living thing!
Herbs can then be either dried or frozen so you have a supply to last all year.

Is it too late to sow seeds now? I bought some in Lidls weeks ago and never got round to planting them. I have chives, swiss chard and coriander I think.

  • Snails - a bit like garlic mushroom flavoured elastic bands - or were mine just badly cooked?

    herbs i grow outdoors:

    Rosemary
    Lemon Thyme
    Marjoram
Lavendar (it is edible - a bit like rosemary)

    on my kitchen windowsill

    Garlic
    Thyme
    Chives
    Parsley
    Mint
    basil

Grow herbs which you will use. I' prefer to grow basil and parsley indoors so i can keep an eye on them and water them when they need it, otherwise they tend to shrivell :-(

I've got about 14 basil seedlings that have come up in a single pot - do these need to be singled out or should they grow together?? (I've kept them together so far following the example of supermarket pots! )

They are about an inch high at the mo :j

Not if you get them in quick tiff, if you manage to plant them within the next few days you should be okay. I have certain packets hanging around that have to be planted in May so I've had to reserve half of my seed beds for these :)

Yes, transplant them so you have about 3 in each pot when they have grown their secondary leaves.

Just shove a single clove into a pot filled with compost(unpeeled) water it regularly but don't drown it and watch it grow like b******y
