Penny wise thanks for the tips. I think I've planted up 3 rocket plants, I was looking at all my seed trays yesterday and there were 3 pots, I stared at them for ages before I remembered they were my rocket pots. The rocket seeds seem to be opened too so I think I've planted them!

My mum was showing me some nice big plants which might go well in my sunroom and she wanted to treat me. The plants didn't have nice flowers, smell or fruit so instead I told her not to bother and to buy me some pepper and perpetual spinach seeds and some big pots for my peppers.

So I now have - basil, coriander, oregano, chives, thyme, rocket, spinach, peppers, swiss chard and lettuce, my mum and her friend will give me some tomatos and beans again so I should be well set up this year. I can't wait. I've run out of garlic so once I've got more in I'll be planting that up too.

By a 10cm pot do you mean diameter? I wasn't sure how much room they needed so I put them in some quite large pots but I've run out of the big ones. If they don't need that much room I think I can a few of the next size down pots. Sorry for asking a hundred questions but do you have the 3 plants in 1 pot?

I am now saving all egg boxes, meat trays and satsuma punnets to plant all my seeds up in. I am trying to be so organised this year and all this grow your own lark is quite money saving and rewarding. I keep having a look under the propogagtors to see what's happening, I think my corriander has grown a root.

Yes it is 10cm diameter - all three rocket plants are in the same pot. they do spread out quite a bit though and they are hanging over the edge so probably need repotting. I put them in one pot as I have limited space. They should be fine in smaller pots.

Cheers for that, I'll put two rocket and spinach plants in each pot then.

I sorted out all my seed packets last night and put them all in a tub to keep them safe and I can't believe how much I've got. Most was aldi/netto so I haven't spent a lot, but hopefully I'll save so much more than I've spent.

I just bought some seeds, chives, basil and swiss chard for 29p a packet in Lidls. I have NO idea how to get started. I take it its best to use seed trays or can they go straight into a larger pot?

Last year I bought hanging basket stuff (baskets, brackets, compost, plants the lot) this year I have just planted some 'tumbling tomato' seeds for tomato plants instead.

I think about £20 went on plants alone last year (4 hanging baskets and various assorted pots) this year the seeds have cost £1.50. Any tomato plants (or even tomatoes) I get will be a bonus - I don't have a green thumb, more a yellow and crispy brown around the edges one! :rotfl:
  • Can I just add, that I love growing things, and any plants that I have left over, I sell at carboots for 50p, they always sell.

Car boots are a great idea for plants, I can pick up tomato plants for about 20p each and herbs for about 35p, I have bought my herbs in seed form this year as I picked up a polystyrene fan shaped planter with different sections in it from the boot sale for 50p. I'm going to stick mine in that just outside the back door.
