I have sage, mint, chive and rosemary outside and basil indoors if this helps you?

Use more of the mint and rosemary than anything else from the outside pots.. Use the basil loads from inside as well.

I've got parsley, mint, oregano, dill and rosemary growing outdoors (all in pots) and basil and chives indoors on the windowsill. I do want some feverfew and some tansy as I suffer from migraine but I'm having a dickens of a time finding those.

You can get feverfew and tansy from here

Did try mint once ............ it died.

Please tell me how you killed it - I had to take a shovel to my last lot to hack it back, stuff grows like pink mallow (don't ask).

Anyway, have learnt now to put it in a pot :D

Herbs are easy to grow, just chuck them in the garden and don't let them get too dry - I have had mint (lots), chives, parsley, rosemary, garlic, sage, lemon balm, oregano and basil.

Sadly, in my current garden, I have nothing but a scraggly lawn, which reminds me................ I have started a thread here for tips to help my scraggly lawn, please take a look if you can help.

I am completely non-green fingered (what would the opposite to green fingered be, by the way?), I have been successful with mint, parsley & chives. I did try corriander & basil last summer in an attempt to improve my absymal record but both suffered a lingering & tragic demise. I keep dried mixed herbs in the cupboard now, covers just about every requirement!

This summer I thought I might try garlic as we use so much..........I'll prepare the obituary at the same time as planting just in case:o

If you are buying basil plants from a supermarket, they put about 5 plants together in a single pot to make it look good on the shelves. This is why they swallow water like is going out of fashion and die very quickly.

When you get them home, split out the plants (and roots) into seperate pots. They should all grow much more easily.

I believe that basil is an annual plant that is supposed to die in the winter, which is why it is hard keeping it going.

Given that I have just tried to pretend I am an expert I should point out that the snails have massacred by basil plants recently. Still, at least the snails will taste nice when I cook and eat them.

I hope you're going to purge them first :D

Of course. Stick them in a tub and feed them clean lettuce (in season at the moment so cheap), bits of leaf from the garden and a few more herbs.

After a week or so, its cooking time! Yum!
