I have a relative who lives abroad - I'm always truly delighted to see him even if it's only for a couple of hours, and I don't care where or when it is - I'd stay up all night if it meant seeing him on the few times we're able to get together.

From the way in which you speak about her, you obviously don't like the woman - if you did, you wouldn't mind that it was a bit inconvenient.

I think I have been pretty clear that we don't get along so obviously when she announces she is visiting midweek then we are not going to be best pleased. However, in my family and with friends - we call a spade a spade. So any problems are very quickly resolved!

Also, in the past we have always gone down to London to see any of DH family as they could never be bothered to come up to Scotland. So, as a resolution when we had our baby, we agreed that each of his family should at the very least come and visit us 1 time (to show face), thereafter we would go to London.
Also, to make it clear, the purpose of the visit to the UK is to visit her sister and her nieces and nephews down in London, not to come up to see us...

caevans - don't sweat the small stuff. Nobody should expect parents to hawk a new baby up and down the length of the country in the winter when it isn't necessary.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

thanks, going to sleep on it. Might be in better mood tomorrow!!!!? Unfortunately his family are my achilles heel and have been the cause of many many arguments over the years, so really doesn't take much to get me annoyed!
ps. just had a call from her to say she has booked a flight up tomorrow whether we are free or not!! AARGGH

To be honest, if none of you like each other anyway, then I don't see any point in you all meeting up, even for the baby.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • If i was you, i'd be mad. I'd tell her not to bother coming if shes coming when you're not free. You have a small baby and should not be trawling to the other side of the country to see someone who is footloose and fancy free!! Personally I think she has no respect for you coming when she knows its inconvenient. If the baby is in bed when she comes tell her TOUGH LUCK!! Shes the one who decided to come then!! :)

At least she wants to visit, which is something to build on. She is making the effort to travel a long way, even if it's just for one evening.

My hubby's brother lives 15 mins away and our daughter was a year old before he bothered to see her :(

Exactly. We've been in the company of my brother three times since my daughter was born and he has yet to hold her, ask about her or indeed do anything beyond calling her crying "attention-seeking". He visited us here twice, both times because my parents paid and he wanted the free holiday. I think if she's making the effort to see the baby, even on her terms, that's something to start with.

Thanks am feeling a bit calmer today.
She will have been told by her Mum that she has to come and visit, otherwise I am sure she wouldn't bother.
Fingers crossed for a calm/non-argumentative day....... just one little day. And night :-)
