The flight might only be 1 hr but travelling to Heathrow can take ages and checkin for domestic flights is 90mins so its not quite a 1hr trip I don't think it was actually mentioned that she would fly which of course would mean the journey will be shorter but no less distance..

    Hi
    thanks for the responses.
We live 1 hr flight from London - not that far is it really?!! She is willing to fly as she is planning on coming tomorrow - my complaint is that she is refusing to come up on Saturday
We only wanted her to come up for one night anyhow - say the Saturday night. By her coming up midweek and with little notice, my husband has to see if he can get time off work and I will need to cancel my plans for tomorrow afternoon too.
She is spending almost 2 weeks with her sister and family including last weekend. Maybe I am too accomodating when I visit people, but I would always make sure I fitted in with the hosts plans rather than making my own.....
    thanks!
p.s. am a bit shocked that anyone would think getting from London to Scotland would take a day or more!!!!!!

flights are often a lot cheaper mid week than weekend, or at least I know that's the case from NI to London anyway...maybe this is the reason?

In this instance I would let my OH and a sister fight it out together, stay well clear and keep my mouth shut.

Thanks Errata - have decided that exactly what I will do. But it may be difficult being nice to her! Just getting it out my system now I guess.
And, really I am not trying to be a big pain in the..(you know what) but the sister lives near London city airport. If she travelled with just hand luggage (like we would do if going to London for a night) - then its only maybe about a 30 min journey to airport + 45 minute check-in + 1 hour flight. Hardly a big deal. Plus like I said she is willing to do it on a day that suits her.
Oh and also my husband doesn't get on with her either (hence not seeing her much) we just want her to see her niece - token gesture then we are happy. Just would prefer if she visited when we are actually free!

And Belfastgirl23; thanks you might be right. But if that is the case we would find the cash to pay the difference in cost between Wed & Sat. If only she would say that was the reason!!

Its only 4 hours on the train to scotland so not exactly the other side of the world. Surely she could spend a weekend with you and her new nephew/neice

sorry but it sounds like your feelings towards her are mutual ??

maybe she is coming out of 'family duty' and will come when its convenient to her

maybe you should say to her that its not convenient and she may like to visit another time / next time she is in the UK ??

gets you all off the hook

Thanks - you are both right. It is 100% to show face. She has shown no interest in our baby since she was born which is fine as we would probably be fairly much the same if she had a baby. Though we would at least visit when convenient for her ;-) !!!
Will leave it in the lap of the Gods (ie. husbands work and if they give him time off!) and see what happens
    Thanks everyone!
  • If she has come all the way from America then personally I think you should go to London to see her, not the other way around!

I think the issue here seems to be a lot to do with the timing? IE, it's short notice and doesn't seem that convenient.
