Really? Sounds ominous, but it would be consistent with Labour's current quest to stamp out all individual choice and treat everyone like they're 5 years old.
On the other hand, something as complex as Golden Shield would be fairly tough to replicate in the UK especially when you consider that most of what the government tries to do never works0 -
The basic mechanism is already in place. - the Internet Watch Foundation filtering implemented by all ISPs (I think).
This is meant to be so kiddy-fiddler stuff is blocked but they have made mistakes in the past (Wikipedia blocked because of an ancient album cover which the zealots considered to be child !!!!!! being one example) but the censors seem to be completely unregulated and could pop any url into the block list that took their fancy. Any foreign proxy could bypass this obviously (making it totally pointless) but governments could control everything you can access. Maybe they already do but you just haven't detected it.0 -

We can rest-assured that Capita (or similar) will be £14bn over-budget and 29 years late in their attempt to implement a Great Firewall of Great Britain. And it won't work if you use a Mac anyway.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j
