Complete bollox and a feeble attempt at DIY propaganda.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Let me start by saying I do not now, and have never, accessed such things!

Now that's out of the way let me assure you that for those who want access to the seedier side of the internet there are proxies, I occasionally use them to bypass my ISPs P2P throttling, but they are almost certainly used by people wanting dodgy content anonymously.

Content filters may make people feel all warm and fluffy inside, but alongside the stuff that I don't want to see on the net a lot more could be filtered besides, as the Chinese example proves.

And who gets to chose what is "safe" for the populace to see? I firmly believe religion causes far more harm that !!!!!philia, but I don't call for bible.com to be blocked.

The police can, and do, break internet rings. If they are all forced to learn a little common sense and surf anonymously it will make the police's job harder, and I don't want that.

We all have opinions, and mine is that everyone should be free to post or view content, but if it is illegal in the countries where posted or viewed the perpetrator should be pursued through the local courts.

Check out the sites on the Net ... here's a few to start you off :-

    technology dot timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/the_web/article2732802.ece

    www dot netzpolitik.org/2009/the-dawning-of-internet-censorship-in-germany/

You can bet your bottom dollar, that if the Government can block one thing, they'll start with something else and something else etc...where does it stop?

    It's the Fabian way!

We should make our views heard, before it's too late.

Care to elaborate? Or is this just knee-jerk outrage?

(How is anyone supposed to know unless you refer to facts?)

I hear your words, I'm just not certain they're worth worrying about. Any technological filtering the UK government brings in will be simple enough to bypass for those in the know, as happens now in China.

It's the thin end of the wedge - What happens if we all start using proxies and one by one they all get shut down, country by country, it becomes some sort of prision planet, our parents / grandparents didn't fight wars for our liberty and freedom for us to just give it away!

How do you do that? I'm fairly sure mine do too, it takes longer to torrent a linux iso than to direct download!
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.
