Thanks.
My heater stopped working the other week and it was the head gasket! Check you anti freeze, top it up and keep an eye on it, just in case it is the head.Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!0 -

Yes, topped up. Head gasket sounds expensive - am I right?******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

Check that you have enough water in the cooling system and that theres no airlocks - if theres air in the system is always goes to the highest available point (which is normally the heater!)
What type of car is it Nicky
as for the OP. When you get in are the carpets wet/frozen? If they are get the spanners, sockets, screwdrivers etc whip em out and dry out inside (I've just done this with my car - pulled the carpet and wadding out and was left with a half inch deep puddle in the footwell  - it also means I've found out where the leak is (on the bulkhead) )Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -

It's a Xsara coupe 2003. Thank you for that - I'll see if it's something my OH can have a look at, or my trusty old Dad. Other than that it's off to the garage!******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
Must confess, I'm not familiar with the Xsara but a quick google (or haynes manual) should tell you where the bleed screws are - if you open one and water doesn't come squirting out (with the engine running) you have an airlock.....
Dont fret about the headgasket just yet - there would have been other signs....Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0 -
Thank you again - it's all gobbledegook to me but OH is a bit more technically minded than I am so I'll have a word.
It's a lovely car, nice and fast but flipping cold at the moment. I'm in OH's Paseo because its heaters work!******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but these xsaras had a bad reputation for heater matrix's leaking, this will cause you to have no or poor heating. if the passengers footwell is damp then it would look like yours is leaking.
its apparently a very labour intensive job, the only way to get at it is to remove the whole dashboard.
thats your worst case scenario....work permit granted!0 -
