I have been to a mentor meeting tonight at the university and have been asked to do some guest speaking on teaching and learning, which I am going to turn down as to be honest I feel like a fake and a phoney (sp):o

No, no, no, no... Feel the fear and do it anyway.

So in a nutshell, I almost have a degree in teaching and my specialist subject but have neither and I would love to go down the route of teacher training full time............

I never make anything easy do I....

You can. You just have to stop being a slave to the fear.

Lou, I worked my way up the accountancy ladder purely by experience....I got quite frustrated when I found I actually knew more than some accountants and it was only when I started working in an accountancy practise that I realised how much I knew....

When I started I was totally intimidated by one colleague who was super confident and knowledgeable....it was only about 12 months down the line that she admitted that she was intimidated by my experience as she had no practical experience.....

so she has the qualification and I have the practical knowledge...we make a good team but I am studying for my ACCA so I have the piece of paper that backs my knowledge up....

So in other words...FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT!

You also seem to have followed the same kind of path in life as me...I do everything backwards...have kids, decide what I want to do and then get the qualification to match!

I think we are twins:rotfl: I am so having Fake it till you make it as my daily mantra:T
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

Ames - I hate semolina - ever since they served it chocolate flavour at junior school, on a regular basis.

Sally - if B doesn't like writing with a pencil, would she practice with her fingers in sand/shaving foam/gloop (flour & water). These are some of the tricks that our Reception teachers use.

    Back to lurkdom.

Sammy, I did see it and replied, it was at the bottom of a page and moved pretty quickly though!

I'm using the web service, I go to my account and click download all songs.

I've just tried using IE instead of Firefox and I'm getting a bit further - it doesn't ask for an application but an error message comes up saying that it was unable to connect to napster and to try again or contact customer support, that's the message I kept getting when I first tried to download it.

Wow samster thats amazing for you...what you going to spend it on..or save it for ;)

B is a good girl..im just really struggling with her school stuff. Spud you can help on this one too. She is very keen to read and happily is reading quite a few words and sound talks/reads the rest...homework this week is to read the sentence " a run in the sun". Instructions are to get them to sound words out and keep repeating them. Well I didn't have to do this as she read it straight away. Then it says get them to work out how each words is spelt and write them. She can spell the words but getting her to write them is like getting blood out of a stone. She hates writing...well when I am asking her to do it anyway. I know a lot of it is down to the fact she is still so young and probably struggles more with the fine motor skills, and also she is a perfectionist and tries to rub it out if its not perfect. She gets upset she can't do it and I just find it incredibly frustrating that her brain is way ahead of her physical ability. Now I sound like a right pushy crappy mother lol. I guess I just want to try and make things easier for her, how can I help her to practice fine motor skills without having to practise writing and put her off for life!

I know this might sound silly - but is her pen comfortable for her? Try ones of larger/smaller circumference.

Dangers, I love semolina but I can't eat rice pudding. When I was in infant school they told us that if we stirred the jam in we'd have to eat it all. I stirred mine in (I mean, isn't that the point of the jam?) then found a big yellow non-rice lump in it and refused to eat any more. I was kept in all break having a battle of wills with them and I've never been able to eat it since!

    Hello everyone

    I'm happy again today :D
Went back to running club last night worried that I'd be a total slug, lagging behind all the others who I was convinced would have been evangelical about running over Christmas.

I was very wrong, looks like no-one had been out for 5 weeks! Did a 4 mile run including a 1.5 mile uphill road and I managed to run the whole thing, no walking at all so i'm really pleased. I don't ache today either so I can't have lost much fitness.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Sally - get some big sheets of paper and get her to paint the letters individually that she needs for the sentance then play around with them making words when they're dry.....she's still learning how the words are spelt and how to draw/paint the letters.

sorry Ames, I did actually see that as well....doh!

Have you tried downloading napster download manager. I used the web service but when I clicked download songs it asked me to install the download manager. Then it asked me where I wanted to download my songs to, I chose itunes but you could choose windows media player. Here...
