Lou...why do you feel like a fake and a phoney! whoever has asked you must have confidence in you otherwise they won't ask.
Is it just fear of being found out that you are a fake and a phoney (I feel like that most days tbh - I am sure one day someone is going to realise I don't know what I am talking about but then so do the other girls I work with...we need each other to validate the fact we do know what we are on about)Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

It happens regularly Sammy, I was pulled to oneside by one of the managers from the teacher training department at work and was asked if I had a Masters degree as they were looking for someone new for the department when a colleague leaves, I went and cried in the loo's as I couldnt bare to admit that I didnt even have a degree:o
people just assume that I have because of the role I have. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
I feel totally in a rut with my career and it is because of the circumstances that I have been in over the years.
For those who dont know this is how my life has panned out......
Age 15 meet OH and buy a house at 19 after dropping out of catering college, took to working part time in pub and one day a week doing office work.
Age 21 and 23 have 2 beautiful boys, whome I love and cherish but I have a yearning for a career so my office work which now is gearing towards accounts has offered to pay for my accountancy quals but only get to level 3 (Alevel).
Fastforward to 1999 when I am offered PT teaching course and commence teacher training (in fe) achieve Cert Ed and Dip Ed (which is now a foundation degree)
I am now teaching full time and am part of the teacher training mentor programme but ironically the teachers who I am training reach the end of their course with more qualifications than I have.
I have been to a mentor meeting tonight at the university and have been asked to do some guest speaking on teaching and learning, which I am going to turn down as to be honest I feel like a fake and a phoney (sp):o
So in a nutshell, I almost have a degree in teaching and my specialist subject but have neither and I would love to go down the route of teacher training full time............
I never make anything easy do I....
...and you know full well that a newly Qualified Teacher is nothing without experience! You have been asked because of your abilities and experience and personality. Complete your Degree Lou. Pepe X

Lou, there is no shame in the fact you don't havre a degree. if they think that much of you, is there someway you can gain the 'offical' qualification?
Also, the fact you don't have a degree but can do the job shouldn't stop you from doing that role!Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

Then turn it around and look at it from their point of view - they've had to work ruddy hard to get a masters to do what they do, you're able to do it because of your talent, your understanding and your ability.
Just because you don't have the exam result doesn't mean you're not able to do the job.
The sheer fact that they assume you have means you must be doing something right."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Lou, what would be involved in achieving your goal hun?Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Lou, if you want to then go ahead and complete your degree. There was a thread on here a few days ago where there was someone who'd had her first at 18, and the useful people were saying that the advantage of having kids young is that they're grown up and out of the way when you're still young enough to enjoy life and do what you want. It makes sense to me - option 1, decide at 18 what you want to do for the next 40 years and then have kids, or have kids young and have 15 or so years to decide what you REALLY want to do with your life, and still be young enough to do it.
Not sure if that makes sense, but I'm really saying go for it and do what you want.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
Lou, I worked my way up the accountancy ladder purely by experience....I got quite frustrated when I found I actually knew more than some accountants and it was only when I started working in an accountancy practise that I realised how much I knew....
When I started I was totally intimidated by one colleague who was super confident and knowledgeable....it was only about 12 months down the line that she admitted that she was intimidated by my experience as she had no practical experience.....
so she has the qualification and I have the practical knowledge...we make a good team but I am studying for my ACCA so I have the piece of paper that backs my knowledge up....
So in other words...FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT!
You also seem to have followed the same kind of path in life as me...I do everything backwards...have kids, decide what I want to do and then get the qualification to match!Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford
