yes but the whole point of the NHS is that it's there for everybody. Not just nice people.

I bet i'd be grateful if it was my daughter who came in p*** etc...... and she wasn't just left in the street to be given a kicking.

you are not getting what I am saying - good healthcare shouldnt be noteworthy or posted on here! only exceptional health care. and to me - that wasnt exceptional. shouldnt that be standard?
I have posted where I think people have excelled.
but when it comes to local hospitals - one is particularly bad and its where my sis in law is currently being treated. (or badly treated in my and families opinion). so scuse me if i think - I am glad this guy had the right treatment - but shouldnt he have had it anyway? why are we expected to be grateful for treatment which wouldnt be tolerated in other countries? because we are TOLD the nhs is best in world?
I think the NHS is better than american system - but we could learn from other countries.

where does it say we are expected to be grateful ? If you dont think you are getting the treatment that you require then there are channels you can go through to complain -
I will say again - it is very rare to get any kind of praise for the work you may do, and especially when people take a pride in their work, and are polite, helpful and talk to you like a human being without being patronising - it is nice to recieve praise back by whichever channel.

As someone who works behind the scenes in the NHS - most of what we hear are complaints about our work, as it is very rare that any of our colleagues will see us while we carry out our duties. Members of the public will not actually come into contact with us at all, except in very rare circumstances. It is because of this we get hardly any thanks at all - no matter how much hard work we put in. However if something goes wrong, whether it is our fault or not, we are very quickly used as scapegoats.
On the odd ocassion we do get praise for a job well done, then it makes a difference.

  • Hope your gf dad is on the mend and believe me as a nurse in the NHS it's great to hear a thanks every once in a while. It makes the job worth doing when you can make a difference (big or small!)

sorry - realise i am really unpopular on this thread but have to say this - If I get good treatment - I say so at the time! I even - shock, horror, buy a large tin of chocolates for the staff to share. and I do appreciate that the admin staff often dont get thanked but am sorry - asking the nurses how to send thanks to them produces blank looks! (had this prob once when for some reason my appointments just werent being sent to me - after being diverted to several different departments got this lovely lady who sorted it all out - got me an appointment asap and i didnt remember her name!)
Its just that - the story the OP told - I would EXPECT that treatment! wouldnt you?
my sis in law is another matter - but I havent posted moaning about it have I? I could - and you would all be shocked!!!

it's a pity there's no ignore function on this here messageboard

There is an ignore button. It is in your profile section. I clicked on my private messages and there is a menu at the left hand side of the page. It allows you to add people to an ignore list.

Problem sorted. The more people who do it to these 'clownshoes', the better!:T

this may make me more unpopular - but i dont care.
some nursing staff seem to feel they are angels and should be adored as such. just because that is the job they are doing.
they are professionals doing a job. some do it badly, some do it well and some do it exceptionally!
I have come across many of the former, most of them do it well and very few do it exceptionaly.
what qualifies me to say this? about fourteen years of son being severe asthmatic and having to spend about a week or two every month in hospital with him.
also watched the standard of care and hygiene deteriorate during that time!
I wont mention here the difference between hospital registars! some brill some absolutely so useless i had to tell them the usual dose of drugs given to my son! and demand that was given to him! even in life threatening episodes!

I've been in hospital many times, as has DH, and in an emergency, nothing beats the NHS - they are brilliant.:T

Where it all fall down is afterwards, on the ward, where (in my experience) nursing care is often (although not always) very slow and lacklustre because they spend too long sitting about at their station, and thinking that basic care is all a bit beneath them, and the fact that levels of hygiene are less than good in many hospitals.

What they should be doing is improving all aspects of NHS care, and making excellence the norm.

It is fairly pointless doing a groundbreaking op on my husband, to improve his life quality, it being a complete success, and then poor nursing, poor hygiene and finally him catching MRSA destroying all the good work done by the sugeons, and creating a situation which has left him disabled for life. :(

I can see where Tandraig is coming from. His original post was merely saying that he found it a bit strange to have a thread thanking a sector of our public services for doing their jobs as they have been employed to do so - and that writing this thread merely perpetuates the myth that the NHS provides bad service - a thread showing praise looks like it's unusual that someone is happy with how they have been treated.

No need for him to have been jumped on!

Or should I be saying 'her', sorry!
