Just an update for those of you with good wishes: He is out now with medication. Exact diagnosis unknown to me, but "discharged with pills" is better than "in the back of the ambulance on the way to hospital" !

Glad to hear he's on the mend. :)

I have good and bad things to say about NHS

My local hospital is utter rubbish it isnt a small hospital either. My daughter who is disabled is often referred to other hospitals much further away, now that might not sound a bad thing if she gets the right treatment. But several times now the doctors who see my daughter cant understand why local hospital hasn't done some things locally or followed through with psychotherapy

Now yesterday I took her to hospital 45 miles way for tests this was to hook up electrotypes to her nerves to see the response, it was a late appointment 5.15pm, we arrive at 5.30pm got stuck in traffic then found out door to place was locked so had to walk all way around to main building. The hospital knew we were going to be late rest is long story

We left at 7.15pm, there staff was wonderful. We been there before at York on Wigginton road and they were good then, very efficent

Great post! Glad he seems to be on the mend!

My wife is a Staff Nurse in the MAU ward and I cant believe the things / people she has to deal with day in and day out, it seems to be a thankless task a lot of the time.

I often ask her why she does it and she says she honestly loves it, the feeling of making a difference. I know its not perfect but I have to say every time Ive been to hospital (not often admittedly) I've found the NHS to be brilliant.

I just wish it could stop being abused by a lot of people.

I too have had overwhelming positive experiences of frontline staff in hospitals local to me over my fathers poor health for many years, terminating in his death last year where they treated him with absolute respect and dignity.

I do, however, continue to have a problem with many admin staff forgetting what they are actually there for.

All my NHS experiences have been positive except for a GP i had who wrongly diagnosed me 4 times for a common ailment.

As one of the "pain in the !!!! middle management" it's nice to hear that people have had a good experience and I would strongly encourage you, if you haven't already done so, to write to that Hospital's Service Manager/ or staff on that particuar ward. Unfortunately people are more likely to feedback if they have had a negative experience or something has gone wrong for them than if everything has gone well and they felt well treated. It is important that Hospitals hear from people who have good things to say about them too. I hope your girlfriend's Dad continues to recover quickly.

This is a lovely thread, and yes the NHS gets a lot of bad press, but without the care and help in the QMC in notts, my daughter would be possibly now wheelchair bound due to scoliosis.

They were really lovely and very very careing. Even after the op, nurses from threatre popped onto ward on their way home to check her progress.

So i too would like to thanks all the NHS staff

    What a lovely post :-)

Glad to hear your GF's dad is on the mend :-)

As a secretary, I always hear bad things from patients, but I also hear good things and they never fail to put a smile on our faces :-)

As someone else said, please write a quick note maybe to the ward that looked after him, this will be read, copied into his notes, and passed to the relevant people and the pain in the !!!! managers.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery
