bought some plates in matalan in "3 for the price of 2" offer, managed to smash one a few wks later so went back to the shop to get another so i'd have a full set again. they weren't on offer anymore so i took some "3for2" stikers from other plates and stuck them on the ones i wanted.
of course when i took them to the till they scanned at full price so i pointed out the stickers. young girl at till got a bit flustered trying to work out what "3for2" at £2.50 each should cost and ended up getting them for £4 in total! bargain! :rotfl:
I love that people do things like this, I think it's what makes us human, it made me laugh so much!:rotfl:Lighbulb moment Mar 06  Total debt £26023.60 Apr 06  Total Debt Now £22714.87 Total Paid Off £3308.73(12.71%) Debt Free Date 2013_party_0 -
Must say, this is a fab thread!
I tend to be very selective with the truth, taking the children to the cinema/swimming etc. Aj who is 4 and on the small size manages to go free!:D
We couldn't afford a hol this year, so decided to go to Alton towers and West Midland Safari park, staying over in a travelodge for 2 nights.
Got the 2 nights for a tenner each in the travelodge (and no, we didn't use the kettle, but did take the tea bags etc! )
Used two for one vouchers for alton towers from woolies, got bogof for meal at brewers fayre (just down the road from the travelodge) Money off vouchers for Little Chef.
I was really miffed as i couldn't find any vouchers for the Safari Park, so i emailed them and said we were a family on a budget, but would love to visit them and the animals! I received money off vouchers for there too!:p
I bought bogof vouchers off ebay for Hungry Horse pub and photocopy them to use on quiz nights!:D
Think that's about it for me!;)0 -

One day someone will see you doing something like this and then it wont seem like such a bargain. It is known by those of us with some morals as common fraud.0 -
My dad was an HGV driver for most of his working life. He still tells the tale of the man whose wife was so tight that she could make one cheese triangle (I won't mention specifics but there was only one Dairy in the Lea in those days
) stretch to three slices of bread! :T Classy dame, that one. "Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

The tightest thing I've ever done?
We had unexpected visitors who brought a KFC bargain bucket which they shared with us.
I made chicken pie with the leftover chicken, soup with the leftover bones & had coleslaw sarnies for lunch for the next 3 days

Regarding the recycling of unwanted gifts......
My mother has been known to do this for years.
I have got into the habit of giving her something I may like for her birthday.
Her memory is quite poor and so she usually forgets it was given by me and she very often gives it me back for Christmas.
Is that mean???
She has everything she needs.... honest.0 -

What's bin-raiding?
Tightest thing ... buying one cup for a drink in IKEA (50p), drinking the drink, refilling it for next person (etc.) and then filling the cup up with ice-cream, eating that, then refilling for the next etc. If I was really tight though, I'd have brought my own cup in the first place!!!0 -

I read about this in a certain Sunday supplement magazaine, (last Sunday, did anyone else catch it?). The people who do this call themselves 'freegans'. You basically sneak round the supermarket bins and take any food that the supermarket has chucked away becuase it's either past its sell by date or just coming up to. The article said that the supermarkets had cottoned onto this and were starting to pour neat bleach over the items they were putting into the bin.
Seems like a complete waste of food to me, why don't they just knock the price down to a silly amount at the end of the day, I'm sure there's more than enough people whoe would snap these items up for a few pence!
NB. I got the impression from the woman in the article that she never went hungry! It's wouldn't have not wouldn't of, shouldn't have not shouldn't of and couldn't have not couldn't of. Geddit?0 -
