cathybird wrote:This 2p cheque story is complete genius ... particularly because it was preceded by a thorough fingerwagging for everyone else
Lets put it this way, there are over 300 people work at this workplace I work at (I have two jobs, so to those who have read I work at a Natwest branch, it is not a huge branch... its another job at a supermarket) Anyway, in the supermarket with over 300 people, the collection in personell collected in total for him........ £11.63 (including my 2p cheque) and his sister and cousin and best mate all work there too!!!!
He was a complete !!!!!!, I didn't put the 2p in to be tight, like most people I didn't want to contribute anything but I thought I'd make a point.
Also rather tight of me, the works drinks machine sells plastic cups of tea for 22p but gives cups of hot water away for free, I have a box of tea bags in my car and take one in each day before I start work. Tight indeed but I like the tea I drink better than the crap out the machine, that is part of my reason as well as the money. If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0 -
Might I suggest you invest 99p in two carrier bag holders from Wilkinsons.lynzpower wrote:Lady fuscia - been there myself. I cut my hand on carrier bags not so long ago as i was to tight to get the bus - I think its perfectly acceptable
It's a plastic handle you slip over the carrier bag's own handles and it's moulded to fingers shape.
Brilliant - makes carrying carrier bags so much more comfortable :-)0 -

Nowt tight about taking your own teabags to work. My husband does it as he prefers herbal teas and you can't get them out of most machines. As he has to watch his caffeine intake due to a heart problem.
He has done this for years even taking in his own flask of coffee/tea if no access to hot water. I don't see it as being tight. Say you drink 10 cups of a tea/coffee etc that is £2.20 a day, or £11 a week and for 46 weeks of the year that is £506 a year  that is 5 months of my food shopping for me.
And think of how much quality tea/coffee can be bought for that price.

very naughty but...
bought some plates in matalan in "3 for the price of 2" offer, managed to smash one a few wks later so went back to the shop to get another so i'd have a full set again. they weren't on offer anymore so i took some "3for2" stikers from other plates and stuck them on the ones i wanted.
of course when i took them to the till they scanned at full price so i pointed out the stickers. young girl at till got a bit flustered trying to work out what "3for2" at £2.50 each should cost and ended up getting them for £4 in total! bargain! :rotfl:Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
oh yeah, another good one was when me & 2 friends were booking a hotel room they charged per person so we said there were only 2 of us. (u can only do this if you dont mind sharing a bed or sleeping on the floor;) )
another time i was inter-railing with same friends, we were camping round europe, one girls mum came to rome while we were there for a few days, she paid for hotel room then sneaked us in each nite. she also pinched bread rolls, fruit and mini cereal boxes from the breakfast buffet each morning for us!!
agree that i have done most of the "tight" things listed except the hotel kettle stuff!
always use work phone if have to call peak time/0870 numbers etc.Wiggly:heartpulsFB0 -
