some of us dont like being hastled on our phones full stop, and preventing these people before we become annoyed is surely a good thing.
though there is one sure fire way to avoid these kind of calls, dont have a phone line? i dont lol, well not any more, i use a broadband dongle to access my net and anything important goes to my mobile.0 -
Lol, I was contemplating doing that with those who kept calling me just blow a whistle or something to annoy them. Would be nice to get an air horn and make them deaf
Not advisable. They've got your number remember. Aside from being sued, as most calls are recorded, you may also find yourself getting silent calls at 2, 3 or 4 in the morning.more dollar$ than sense0 -

it goes straight to answerphone0 -
You could put a message on the answerphone telling them to press 1 to be put on hold then be cut off at random, or leave a message after the tone. They usually ring off and don't leave a message.0

I had a call today with Number Unavailable shown from a male Indian call centre worker who asked for me by name and then said he was doing a "UK State of The Nation Survey" and would I mind answering a few questions. I said what were the questions about and he wouldn't tell me. Then when I said I might consider answering them he said was I agreeable to being called back by their marketing partners about any service that I said I was interested in. I said I was not.
When I asked where he was calling from he said London but when I then said that no one from his country who had spent any time in the UK had the metallic Indian accent he did or used the odd expressions he did (which are normal colloquial Indian English as spoken between Indians but not how even Indians who live here and have any experience of working here speak it) he then gave up the pretence that he was in London at all. At this point I demanded to speak to his supervisor and he cut me off.
From the whole style of the call and the attempt to say they were representing numerous different UK companies I am sure this is precisely the same Indian call centre outfit that also goes by the name of Consumer Research Centre and Lifestyle Research Centre. But presumably due to the mountain of complaints now building up against them they have changed names again and found a way to withhold CLI to avoid any danger of the normally highly complacent and incompetent TPS and ICO being prepared to take action against them.
If you can't provide a phone number or address the TPS Complaint website and ICO helpline always maintains there is nothing they can do about the company.
Can these jokers really not afford to have their phone number compared with the TPS so that they only call willing victims. Surely with even half the UK's phone lines registered for TPS there are still enough lines to call and most of these people are likely to far more readily go along with the scam (given that they have still not registered with the TPS despite all the active promotion of it over the last few years).0 -
lifestyle research centre been on phone to me twice today, first time they hung up and never said anything, second time was right in middle of emmerdale (argghh, missed important bit n all)
companies like these are a pain in the backside and thats putting it mildly
surely TPS should be able to do more about them, i'm registered with TPS but it never seems to stop any companies phoning me
phone number from second call is 0213 537 10000 -

Make a Silent Call complaint to Ofcom using their online form at https://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/silent/?itemid=284912
Also add a report in the long thread on unwanted calls by the company at http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/02135371000
Then register for Silent Call Guard at https://www.ukdatait.co.uk/cgi-bin/sgAddNumber.cgi
If you get called by this firm again as a manned call trying to get you to agree to receive further sales calls about products then report them to the TPS Complaints section at http://complaints.tpsonline.org.uk/Consumer/ With a manned call you should also make a complaint to the Information Commissioner under the PECR rules at https://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/privacy_and_electronic_communications.aspx
If enough people complain action is usually taken. The ICO says they only get complaints from a few thousand people each year about unwanted calls so every complaint informs the companies against which they should target enforcement action.0 -
Not a single cold or telemarketing call since I have installed TrueCall 6 months ago. Absolutely none after getting 3-5 every day before TrueCall. It is probably the best £59 I have spent recently. I would recommend that those who haven't used it or researched well how it works should not make any stupid comments about how it works. If one cannot press the "Star button" on their phone to add a caller to their "Star List" or the "Hash Button" to add them to their "Zapped List" then I don't think they should be looking at the Techie Forum in the first place.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

people look at the techie forum to get help and advise on things they dont know about0 -
