Mobiles.co.uk - have I got this right?

i'm looking at a particular cashback offer on mobiles.co.uk. let me see if i have this straight. ideally, i would like the rep to confirm this for me (does he have an email address, as i can't PM him?)

i order the phone on a 24 month contract, and use it for six months. i can then go onto my online account with the mobile operator on my billing date, download PDFs of 5 different bills (see below), and email them to the mobiles.co.uk cashback team (either on cashback@mobiles.co.uk or using the online form) - in other words, no need for special delivery etc. i will then receive an email acknowledgement (how soon?) and then a cheque within a month (give or take).

assuming i connect in january 2010 on a 24 month contract the bills i need to send in are the bills i receive in:
  • july 2010 (6 months, as in the example on the website)
  • october 2010 (9 months)
  • january 2011 (12 months)
  • april 2011 (15 months)
  • july 2011 (18 months)
are these dates correct for a january connection? is it just me or does allowing email submission and this straightforward bill return schedule seem ludicrously simple? what am i missing here? i've had redemption cashback deals before, but none have been this straightforward, even in the halcyon days of CPW and e2save.

am i naive? what am i missing?

    OP;

Those dates look correct. Remember the date to count from is the one on the invoice we send you with the phone, as per the example on our site. Email or webform submission is fine as per the website.

    Regards,

    PS Silk,

Please remove my email address - it's for me to give out where necessary/appropriate and as I will be handing this account over shortly it's not wise for it to be linked to this Rep account on here; it will only cause more problems than it can solve when I'm no longer monitoring these forums.

i have been looking around those threads. generally (although not always) it seems the rep is able to resolve the query fairly quickly and painlessly. but forewarned is forearmed etc etc...

also, i imagine if everyone who had a positive experience was compelled to post a thread (not a very interesting one, but still), there would be a whole lot more of those, surely? i know that was always the case when i was running two or three cashback contracts at a time under cpw/e2save - the level of complaints on MSE were totally alien to my experiences at the time.

in all honesty, i don't know what to do . i just want a cheap phone deal, and i've never had a problem with redemptions before (though i've been out of the game for a few years). the only one that ever failed me was forward cellular, when they collapsed. e2save and CPW were always fine, and if i can submit my bills by email, that's an extra £20 saved.

    Hi Ferris,
They are cheap enough from what I've seen but thats the price you pay for the lack of CS I suppose.
Like most companies when nothing goes wrong it's ok ....but when they do it escalates into a major drama.
Fingers crossed you have no problems if you decide to take the risk ;)

    Regards,

so if i ordered in late january, and was connected in early february, then all those dates would need to be shifted forward one month (july becomes august etc)?

is email/webform submission likely to remain in place for the entire duration of a 24 month contract?

also could you please confirm that those dates ARE accurate for a january order (rather than just that they "look correct"). i would appreciate having a written record of this confirmation from someone within the company to use in conjunction with the ts&cs should anything go awry :)

As this http://!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/cashback.html page states - use the "Invoice Date" on the paperwork you receive with phone to work out your dates.

If that invoice date is January, your calculations are correct and remember you have 60 days to send the forms in but cannot get it wrong, so you could basically send the form in say 15 days into 60 period days if you are a bit nervous.

As for the terms changing, if they do they should not affect your particular cashback as you agree to the t&c as at time of purchase. So keep a copy of them to hand.

Since you have not ordered yet - if you do, I would make it priorty to send an email to them and get the dates confirmed in an email although the rep has done so on the forum above.

Email submission - just keep a tap on their site over time to make sure nothing changes.

PS - Just thinking about it - to avoid some headache, best time to order would be at start of a month, the invoice and connection date should fall into same month then although I think the invoice date is the connection date with mobiles.co

    Hi,

I can't really respond to any of this due to the rules around being a Rep here, but I can confirm your example months for both Jan and Feb connection dates are accurate (ie bills from the network issued with a date on from that month) and that we have no intention of removing the email or web submission routes.

As MobileJunkie himself would say, work out how likely it is we'll go bust and look at our track record for contested claims - 2 CCJs, ever, neither relating to cashback and from memory I think only 2 or 3 of the threads Silk likes to keep linking to relate to cashback claims and in all cases the customer went away happy.

are there claim forms? i thought it was just bills?

your statement above confused me a bit... why should there be any doubt about when to send it in? if the bill is issued on, say, the 15th of july, and it appears in my online account shortly after midnight on that day, why would there be a problem with emailing it to them within 10 minutes of it appearing online? it's one way of guaranteeing i don't forget!

Connection and invoice dates are always identical as the invoice is printed and the network connection activated at precisely the same time by our systems (ie when the warehouse "close" the order).

The only confusion so far has been where a handset is connected eg 31st Jan, delivered 1st Feb and the first network invoice arrives maybe the 2nd. 31st January is the date to use and this is made very, very clear on our site (down to the picture of the invoice with this date circled).
