Along the lines of what penniesonly said I think I was missold so I'd like to take up that avenue or any other to get a full refund.

As you admit, you didn't know you were going to change your car when you set the policy up. So unless they specifically stated "you can change your vehicle to a Daihatsu Cuore later in the policy term" when you set the policy up, how exactly has the policy been "mis-sold"?

Aparantly the Cuore wasn't very popular in the uk, but the market is now flooded with imports as it was cheaper to do that than buy a new one.

Its simple contract law I am afraid.
You entered a contract. You tried to change contract. They declined. All perfectly acceptable.

No its not, tell the FSA says "Consumers [should] not face unreasonable post-sale barriers imposed by firms to change product, switch provider, submit a claim or make a complaint."

This is part of its "Treating Customers Fairly" initiative.

Perhaps you could point out where the unreasonable barriers are in this case with regard to changing product, switching provider, submitting a claim or making a complaint?

Note that "changing product" does not refer to amending the details of an existing policy. It means changing from, for example, a commercial vehicle policy to a private car policy.

Hope the consultancy consists of better advice than this tbh.

Sounds harsh. I've had two insurers refuse to provide me with cover when I've changed vehicles mid term. One didn't like sport models - it was a Ford Puma for goodness sake but so be it.

The second time it was because I added some fairly heavy duty modifications to my previously standard MX-5.

In both cases I got a pro rata refund. The huge irony was in both cases the revised cover was with the same company under a different brand name.

Why not phone the insurers direct?. Ask them what happens if the insured vehicle suffers a non-ecconomical break-down (one that costs more than the car is worth to fix), and the vehicle has to be scrapped.
