As for standing inside the door of the supermarket, I suggest you try to watch a few episodes of the "Real Hustle" BBC program. You will find a lot of scam artists need to be blazen and stand in prominent areas like shopping malls and supermarkets to make people feel secure and to not dig too deep into what they are actually doing, as they wouldn't expect someone who is scamming them to be allowed in such areas, when more than likely they don't have permission.
I'm not saying candis didn't have permission they probably did but people take other people words too seriously and believe everything that comes out of their mouth, especially when charity is mentioned.
Too many think they are doing the morale thing donating to a cause because the word "charity" was mentioned, donate a few quid and thats your good deed done for the day, yet you failed to even ask the basic question of how much is actually going to charity. If they skirt around the question I would be asking myself why??
For the THIRD time, this thread obviously isn't for the 0.1% of people who are just like you pitkin ie incredibly savvy, inteligent and fully aware of the issues involved in 'charity' scams including doubtless what % of a donation should be consumed in 'overheads' by any valid charity collecting agent.
It's meant for the typical Candis targets ie for the busy harassed mums who don't have a ot of time to forewarn themselves about the issues that you are obviously are aware of, nor to be as well versed as yourself in the areas of smugness/told you so/your fault/accept responsibily for your own failing/I'm perfect.
I would also suggest that Dampdaveski's posting applies to your posts also.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Again you just don't get it do you, it has nothing to do with as you put it "smugness/told you so/your fault/accept responsibily for your own failing/I'm perfect." but is to do with protecting yourself. I can't understand wheter your just being ignorant or if you are just plain stupid, regardless of Candis's selling tactics your happily handing over bank details to a company your not fully aware of.
My point is you have the time to stand there and fill in the form and give your bank details, but your not taking 30 seconds to just find out who your actually dealing with. On this occasion candis is actually a magazine so fro your money you will get a magazine. Next time it could be a very good scammer standing there telling you outright 100% goes to charity, you give them your bank/credit card details and next week your account is emptied.
WHO WILL YOU BLAME THEN.........no doubt it will be the banks fault for not protecting you from your own stupidity.
Oppsadaisy or megagun or which ever other username your using my suggestion to you would be to cancel your credit cards and only deal in cash from this day forward.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Just to add on the above point. What is the point of this thread if people are still going to sign up without forewarning themselves on the "truth of candis" as you put it. If they can't be bothered to check the company out this thread will only serve as another "I got scammed" rant.
Its up to every individual to check what they are doing, doesn't mean they will never be scammed but taking a few steps will definetly minimise the risk of being scammed.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Calm down dear, it's only a post on the internet.
Neither Megagun nor myself have fallen for Candis [Megagun used to actually work for them!!!].
You're correct...not every busy mum will read this thread, but some will....and isn't that a good thing?
In addition some existing subscribers will also read this and act upon it [in fact some have already done so on other threads]..and isn't that a good thing.
Your point seems to be 'You're stupid for signing up in the first place'...I'm not sure that helps in way, shape or form....[especially given how slick the sales people are and the emotional buttons they press on their 'punters/targets'].
Your point about being careful about giving out details to strangers is laudable and common sense but wrt someone being able to empty your bank account with just the 'details' I'll make 2 points......1. Candis set up a dd...so you're protected, and 2. the self-same details are on every cheque that you write and give to 'complete strangers'.
I'm [iyw] neither 'ignorant' nor 'plain stupid'...at least on this occasion [imo].
Anything positive to add to the thread??Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Anything postitive to add to the thread??
Your mixing up my points, firstly candis may set up a direct debit, yes you are protected. The point I was making is about giving details to just anyone and yes you can be defrauded by simply giving someone all of your details like name, address, DOB and bank details its called ID fraud. Also whilst your signing up they could easyily ask for the long number off your card along with the other details needed to make a payment to themselves. Card fraud is very easy when people willing hand their details over.
On this occasion Candis is a genuine company, but for all you know standing there signing up you could be signing up to a fraudulent company all because you couldn't be bothered to take the time to check them out.
Your point seems to be 'You're stupid for signing up in the first place'
I never said that, if that's how you perceive what I have posted then thats you making an assumption. The point i'm making is it far too easy to complain about something after the fact when could have prevented it from happening in the beginning had you of just taken a few seconds to ask a few simple and straight forward questions.
Yes this thread may warn others who have already signed up but by your reckoning of people don't have time to ask the questions and just sign up then this thread will be of no use to them as they obviously won't be checking the company out. They will only find this at a later date.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

I do think you go on. But I get the general point.
If you learn about Candis Magazine, all you learn is how to avoid one scam.
It's the old adage of giving a man a fish (the facts about one scam), and teaching a man to fish (discussing the sorts of general skills needed to avoid lots of scams) isn't it?
If we discuss the general skills needed to avoid scams, we can avoid more than. Problem is that any suggestion these situations can be avoided is like a red rag to a certain, unpleasant, type of person. Unfortunately it's too easy to get caught up when such a person gets on their high horse.
I don't think it's helpful to view the skills needed to avoid such scams as "incredible" savvyness. You think like that- you define the sorts of stuff normal people can do as complicated and above you- you will get sunk.
It's just normal, common or garden savvyness. Sure we may all lack it from time to time, but treating someone giving useful advice as if they are slapping you in the face, just because that advice highlights our own failings is cutting off our noses to spite our faces.0 -

I'm presuming you're talking to me [and not pitkin] with this bit ...... FWIW I was being a little, teeny, weeny bit tongue in cheek when I wrote that [as the second half of the post should have made clear].Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Putting this thread back on topic.......a summary.
Candis are a privately owned company...who publish a monthly mag and give 8.5% of sales to charity.
So they have donated £50million to charity and put £500million through the family owned publishing business. Presumably the family business does rather well out of this publishing deal.
They work in big brand supermarket foyers or shopping centres and the staff are well trained in selling to their target audience. They seem to target mums with little babies and focus on the fact that they support Bliss [a charity for premature babies]......
Many posters are left with the opinion that the salespeople imply that it's all a charity and no mention is made of it being a private company/publishing business.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
