SIMPLE FACT YOU GIVE £35 POUNDS A YEAR ON DIRECT DEBIT

£5 POUNDS IS A MEMBERSHIP THAT GOES TO Newhall Publications Ltd

SIMPLE MATHS 10% OF £30.00 IS £3.00p

10% (£3.00) OF 30 POUNDS GOES TO CHARITY IN GIFT AID MEANING THEY GET TAX RELIEF

£27.00 Goes To Newhall Publications Ltd & dont forget the £5 membership.

Grand total of your donation £32.00 they keep

They have about 350,000 Members as well so there making around 10 to 12 million pounds a year.

Just imagine what a genuine charity could do with 10 to 12 million pounds each year folks ??????

Bottom Line £3.00 Goes to Charity given by Gift Aid out of £35.00

If 28572 people gave 35 pounds a year thats a million pounds thats all the Candis raises.

Seems last one got deleted wonder why ????

Would not have anything to do with Newhall Publications Ltd having there own employed in house solicitor :rotfl: :@)

Well thats truth say what you want nice & sweet this time.

Have Fun

I must be missing something as Candis seems to be a magazine not a charity? Your paying to get a subscription to their magazine, and they donate 10% to charity. Of course they are going to make money as they are a business.

Care to elaborate as i'm not sure what your issue is.

  • pitkin,
megagun is reiterating an old thread that seems to have disappearred.
The original thread allegedly as I understand it :) was basically about the 'spin' candis put on their magazine implying or allowing people to think it's all about charity, when in actual fact it is a profit making commercial organisation, that gives 10% of its mullah to charity.
Without going over old ground I would give my £35 directly to a charity of my choice, the paper in the magazine isn't good enough to wipe your cheeks on, which is basically in my personal opinion (that I don't want to impose on anyone) all it's good for.
That was me being tactful by the way :D
The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D

It's because the people who sell it (in places like shopping centres) very often give the impression that most of the money raised by the sale of the magazine goes to charity, when in fact it's only 10%. Several people have posted on a another thread about Candis, saying that's the main reason they signed up for the subscription.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • Had a Candis stand in one of our local shopping centres a few weeks ago, wasn't stopped by them (thankfully), but would have asked about this if I had been.

I did scan over the old thread so kind of get the jist. From their website its clear its a magazine that simply donates to charities and isn't a charity.
I suppose if your approached by a seller in the street that implys its all for charity it's a little different, but surely you check how much is being donated to the charity and it is also a registered charity, don't they have a registraion number on all literature.

Thats why I dont give anything to anyone in the street regardless of the charity they may be promoting, i'd give direct to a charity. I never understand why anyone would give bank details to anyone on the street, then people wonder why they become victims of fraud.

Isn't the emphasis on you to check what your giving or in this case buying before giving your details?

Before the ripping apart begins it is only my opinion, i'm happy for a civilised debate but if your going to start throwing sticks and stones then please don't bother responding to my response.

I think you are right, people should check these things out and ask the right questions and not have to rely on other people to flag up obvious scams.

However- I also think people are right to be annoyed about the existence of these magazines. They are misleading.

I had a man come to the door dissembling about "I hope you think I'm collecting for a good cause" and clutching a dog-eared copy of candis magazine. Didn't get chance to ask any questions- they must have been written all over my face.

Yes you're right, when I signed up last year I should have checked, but (and I no it's no excuse) when you're in a hurry and approached by someone who is well versed and has all the flannel. She told me that it was charity based and gave me the impression that most of my subscription would go to charity. As soon as I found out (after the £35 went out of my account) I cancelled the direct debit. if the direct debit is not cancelled it rolls on year on year.

Did you ask to see the registered charity number?? If your so concerned about giving to charity you would give direct to the charity of your choice.

If you don't have the time to ask the questions how do you know who your even dealing with? yet your happy to hand your bank details over to a complete stranger in the street.

Did you ask to see the registered charity number?? No I never thought to ask for that If your so concerned about giving to charity you would give direct to the charity of your choice. Call it my good deed for the day, so I thought. I do give to charity in other ways

If you don't have the time to ask the questions how do you know who your even dealing with? exactly yet your happy to hand your bank details over to a complete stranger in the street.
I was on that day , on one occasion, but not since/or indeed, again. But we all make mistakes, i've yet to come across someone who is perfect.
