The 'scam' is that [as already mentioned] the salespeople lie/mislead/blur/omit...thereby giving many?? subscribers the impression that it's a full charity mag.
It also seems to be heavy on emotional blackmail as well...targetting mums with little kids and selling on Bliss [premature babies charity].
Yes, if you read it and ask the right questions you see it's not 100% to charity...but many don't. It's those people this thread [and the previous ones] are targetting..... not the 'I would never be so stupid as to fall for that' brigade.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I was on that day , on one occasion, but not since/or indeed, again. But we all make mistakes, i've yet to come across someone who is perfect.
Its nothing to do with being perfect but it is all to do with protecting yourself. Too many people happily hand over card details to anyone on the street without checking credentials, without finding out exactly what they are paying for then complain when their card is used to run up a load of debt.
This is another reason I believe charities shouldn't be allowed to take such details on the street, cash collections are fine most people put a couple of quid in the tin but never really know where it ends up.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

When I was approached by a Candis representative, it was in a supermarket and he had his own stand near the entrance. I would be less likely to think that someone set up like that wasn't being truthful, compared to someone out on the street. They targeted me because I had a baby and the magazine was to do with babies needing special care when born. Apparently for older people they use cancer charities.
The way he told it, was that the magazine was the charity's and that for the subscription, you donated the money to chairty and got a magazine, thus ensuring they had a regular donation from you. Not once did he mention he was a third party. I didn't take out the subscription though as having a baby, my purse strings were tight! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

This is a perfect description of their method of working.
Credible position in a main supermarket, targetting mums with little babies, playing on 'premature babies' and implying [or outright lying] that its 'all for a good cause'.
Many people would say "Yeah, give me £25million a year and I'll happily publish some cheap mags and give £3M to charity".Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

This is true. But the fact we all make mistakes is not an a excuse.
We should all accept responsibility for our failings- not try and make out that our mistakes are not mistakes at all.
Thankfully you did accept responsibility for your error. This makes you a nice person.0 -

I don't sign up to direct debits on the doorstep for this reason.0 -

Sorry but if not prepared to ask the questions or don't have the time to find the relevant info from the sales person you ask them for literature so you can take it away and read it in your own time. You don't think "its for charity it'll be ok, heres my credit card details".
As for standing inside the door of the supermarket, I suggest you try to watch a few episodes of the "Real Hustle" BBC program. You will find a lot of scam artists need to be blazen and stand in prominent areas like shopping malls and supermarkets to make people feel secure and to not dig too deep into what they are actually doing, as they wouldn't expect someone who is scamming them to be allowed in such areas, when more than likely they don't have permission.
I'm not saying candis didn't have permission they probably did but people take other people words too seriously and believe everything that comes out of their mouth, especially when charity is mentioned.
Too many think they are doing the morale thing donating to a cause because the word "charity" was mentioned, donate a few quid and thats your good deed done for the day, yet you failed to even ask the basic question of how much is actually going to charity. If they skirt around the question I would be asking myself why??Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
