Dealing with the green eyed monster
Comments
-
My sister in law was given a flat worth about 200k when she married her husband by his parents. She has no kids, no mortgage yet spends her work money on rubbish and then complains she has none so just spends, spends, spends on the credit cards as she knows if she gets a little upset her father in law will bail them out again, already done so about 4 times in 3 years.
where as we have three kids, renting, debts of £20k and living each month as it comes but on the whole we are more than happy. Of course we would like some extra money but the kids never go without, we all eat, clothes on our back and roof over our head. The biggest thing is we are happy but she is not and sad to say but is purely with her hubby as she knows there is a bank called father in law.0 -
i'm not jelous per se, though i do feel that celebs get far more money than they deserve.
what upsets me is that everytime i try my hardest something bad happens to push me backwards. almost a three steps forward one step back kinda deal. i try no to let it get to me, or think of it as karma etc but it can be quite disheartening. this past week i've had a really good positive week, i can't remember the last tiem a week felt so good, so i'm waiting for some disaster (sp?) to happen...i'll prob find out i'm pregnant or summit :eek:0 -
I think the main thing we all should not be doing is comparing ourselves to anyone else is the first place!
We shouldn't feel bad about ourselves because our friends have been spoiled nor should we feel bad for them because they'll never know what it is to have really earned something. At least that's what i tell myself when the green-eyed monster is preventing me from sleeping0 -
OP, you will get a better sense of achievement if you set yourself goals (no matter how small) & achieve them yourself, without being given them on a plate. As has been said, wealth comes in many forms, not just monetary. It's up to you what you do with your life, doing something you enjoy & getting paid for it is great, a lot more enjoyable than getting on the career treadmill, just because somebody says you had to.
I used to work in pressurised, sales target driven environment, working 6-7 days a week, 60 - 65 hours a week. I'd be out of the house for 14 hours a day, missed my son growing up in his first years. Five years ago we decided enough is enough. I know do a similar job, no pressure at all and work a 5 day week. My quality of life has increased immeasurably, I get more time with my family & friends.
I see people having new cars & the like, it used to bother me, it doesn't now, especially when I find out they've financed themselves to the hilt in order to have the latest Gti or whatever.
I do get angry when I see my boss giving thousands each year to his daughter, then pays her rent, council tax, holidays etc while she does squat for it, while a young single mum in the office has to struggle on what he pays her.
Great thread by the way.0 -
Apologies for going off on a slight tangent here but the initial post referred to some audio books about becoming a millionaire. Does anyone have any further information (title/author) on these or could you point me in the right direction.

Could it be that your friend inside is jealous of you and your life?
The thought of working for a living, the independance and satisfaction standing on your own two feet brings. Maybe this is something she really craves!
As much as I'd love to have loads of money I'd like to earn it and continue to work doing something I love!
I bet a few years down the line your friend will look back on her life and realise that she has never actually achieved anything. I bet thats a retty horrible feeling!
You on the other hand can!
Remember the grass is always greener.................!
And success shouldn't and isn't in my eyes, based on an amount of money! There is far more to life than that!0
