I would never ask anyone to move from one just because they don't look disabled.
I wouldn't either. I have an invisible disability, until I stand up and can't walk in a straight line. (and no, I'm not drunk!)Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Seizures and the meds make me like that, I can barely walk through the door and my speech slurs. It raises a few eyebrows at school at 8.30am;)Sealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -
I have totally lost what is going on in this thread but did notice this point. There are so many people with hidden disabilities but I do find that people (especially older people) think unless you are over 70 or in a wheelchair then you can't be disabled. I don't usually use the disabled seats on the bus but recently I had a hospital appointment the morning after a seizure. This makes me exhausted, in pain and I have terrible balance so I did use one of these seats. As with you Trialia I was glared at and tutted at by an elderly lady who spent the whole journey staring at me. There were 3 other disabled seats free

*Gets off soapbox and sidles out of thread:o*
I was accused of generalising because I said some people in mobility scooters are less than careful who they run over, or people with sticks expect preferential treatment.
Would you have expected the old lady who tutted at you to be a mind reader and know by some divine method that you have had a seizure? Would it really have been so impossible for you to have gone an extra yard to another seat to avoid the possibility or was it deliberate confrontational behaviour on your part to provoke a reaction? Who knows? Certainly not me. Perhaps you weren't well enough to go out and should have rescheduled the appointment.
If you know you are entitled to the bus seat what on earth does it matter if some random stranger gives you a funny look?
I have lost count of the people who have 'tutted' at my husband and said he is ignorant or worse because he hasn't moved when they have said excuse me or whatever from behind him. He hasn't darned well heard them. He doesn't take it as a personal affront though, it has happened far too many times to be bothered with.0 -

Wow you really do have a chip!!!
No I don't expect her to be a mind reader but it isn't up to her to decide who is entitled to those seats especially when there were others free.
No I couldn't go to another seat, once you are past the disabled seats you have to go up a step. It certainly wasn't confrontational so don't judge everyone by your own standards.
I wasn't well enough to go out but my hospital appointment couldn't be missed.
Maybe other people don't bother your husband because he has enough to worry about by being out with you.Sealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -
Does the operation actually cure it (and give him full sight back) or does it just remove the cataracts and help him see better?
There is an operation I can have which would help me. However, it's only a temporary fix.
Apparently he will have perfect distance vision. Will just need the cheap magnifying glasses from Boots for reading.
No more expensive vari focals.0 -

I don't have a chip but you need to be realistic. I do realise that you all have decided to pick me up and chastise for every comment but you are being ridiculous. I offered several options but you obviously have a completely closed mind and are determined to see every glance from a stranger a as a slight. Perhaps she didn't care where you were sitting. Perhaps you had lipstick on your nose or odd coloured hair or a bogey in your nose or something that was making her look at you. You just choose to assume it is because of this hidden disability that she could have had no inkling of. Talk about victim mentality.0 -

That's brilliant.:)
I would still have poor vision if I was operated on; but it would reduce the amount I have to tilt my head. (I tilt my head to stop my eyes moving - this helps me see better; but causes neck problems and is the reason why I can't walk in a straight line)Sealed pot challenge #232. Well perhaps you could explain to me how I can be realistic. I am perfectly entitled to use these seats and it isn't up to a bitter old woman to tell me otherwise.Sealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -

But she didn't 'tell' you anything did she. You chose to put an interpretation on her look. As I pointed out you could have had a bogey hanging from your nose whuch offended her. Who knows?0 -
