not been able to join in the fun this afternoon as have spent the afternoon at the hospital with my husband.

i think the start of a previous post says it all, i am sure KrissKross this is fun to you, a bit like bear baiting, less see how much we can wind up the disabled on here.
i see that you are a retired nurse who also trained in pallative care and i don't want to insult anyone by defining pallative care but this gives a rough definintion:
A palliative care nurse is a clinical nurse specialist who cares for people with advanced illness or who are dying. They are trained in pain and symptom control as well as giving emotional support to patients with a terminal illness and their carers.
just look at some of your previous posts, you haven't a clue who you are talking to, many on her could qualify for DLA under speacial circumstances, so you are attacking the very people you used to help. i think a long look in the mirror is called for and ask yourself who is this person you have become

Newspapers? Sweets? Chocolate? Lottery? Bottle of wine? Making a joint of meat do for an extra meal?

These things do not affect a disability and will soon make up the fiver. Many non-disabled people (like me) have to cut back in this way if they are on a low income.

I already cut back on these; but still am being forced to use my own money (which I shouldn't have to) to pay for disability-related stuff.

So are you (in your opinion) on the correct rate of DLA?

  • I can understand if someone is on too low a rate of DLA that they may be struggling, but they need the correct rate of DLA, not an extra fiver from the WFA. Then they could budget their 'other' money to include extra fuel.

Not being on the correct rate of DLA is not a justification for receiving more money from elsewhere.

Yeah I know that. But there is NO heating component within DLA. Yet, if someone is over 60 and receives DLA, they can get both. Fair?

I know of one person with severe RLS; she had had no sleep for ages and was meeting her fiance's parents for the first time - and fell asleep at the table with her face in her pudding.

I wouldn't call it a disability but it certainly affects your life.

    Poor girl!

I suffer with restless legs, although not to the extent you described sdw. I also have awful cramps and although quinnine has been prescribed for the cramps, nothing for the rls. It is a horrible thing when you can't sleep, can't settle because of it.

I'm glad you have found something that helps :)

More often than not it is your generation that chooses to be spiteful towards me when i get out occasionally, due to the fact that they cant stand seeing someone younger than themselves limping and using a stick/or in wheelchair they choose to knock me or walk straight towards me with no intention of moving out of the way...oblivious to the fact that this causes me great pain and could even result in my falling over....

Not wishing to wade in on the direction of this thread but I wanted to give a big thumbs-up to this - it's been my experience!

Yes, because the qualification for getting the fiver a week is being over 60! (at the moment, although the qualifying age is rising in line with the rise in womens' Pension age).

Why on earth do you believe that you should not have to pay for things you want or need?

Are you another person that thinks the world owes them something because you have a disability?

You are probably better off than most on here. Student Loan, Disabled Student Allowance, DLA, Housing Benefit, No Council Tax amongst the benefits you can get.
