not been able to join in the fun this afternoon as have spent the afternoon at the hospital with my husband.
Keep forgetting that as well as the profound deafness, rheumatoid arthritis, insulin dependent diabetes, chronic lung disease and Menieres disease he is also legally blind as he has very significant ( consultant's words not mine) cataracts on both eyes.
Now tell me again that I don't know what disabled is.0 -

Not always - I'm way below the poverty line, and I get no benefits. I got turned down for DLA, even though I can barely walk and have high care needs. Some of us fall through the net.
Can we assume you are not entitled to sickness benefit in your own right due to lack of NI contributions and you have a partner who earns enough to keep you?0 -

You cannot assume. I do not have a partner, I'm single. I do not want incapacity/sickness benefit as I do work part time.
I'm not sure how much NI I've built up, I'm only 22 so probably not much."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
I have weeks where I need to buy things such as textbooks, which aren't cheap. Mine cost me £20 second hand. If I was to buy it brand new, it would cost me nearly 3 times that.
I don't always have £40 left over. Some weeks, it really is only a couple of quid. And no, I don't go out clubbing or buy new clothes all the time. The only reason why I spent so much on clothes last week (around £37) was because I needed them.
I am NOT better off than pensioners. How many pensioners do you know need to buy things scuh as text books?.
Sorry you've blown it. you really should realise that we can see your posts on other threads. I accept it was probably a bit of boasting but you did say that out of a weekly budget of £80 after housing costs you USUALLY have over £40 left. Quite unequivocal as far as I am concerned. and you almost certainly wouldn't need to buy books every week. I have been in Higher Education and I borrowed most of the books i needed from the Uni library.
I think you probably are better off than most of the pensioners I know. None of them to my knowledge have £40 a week fritter money after paying all their bills.

I apologise. Have you looked at WTC and LHA and CTB? Could be worth your while if you work over 30 hours a week0 -

Are you able to get the audio books from your library? If your OH likes reading, they're putting more and more stuff on audio now, so may have something he would enjoy. You can also order stuff in from other libraries if there isn't anything suitable for loan at any particular time.
Hopefully he wont have to wait too long for his operation. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

Thanks for the suggestions.I can't work over 30 hours - I work up to 28, so don't quite make it. I'm sure I read you can't claim WTC until you're over 25, unless it's a disability premium. Perhaps if I get DLA this time I can claim. It typical you have to get money in the first place to get more money!

How awful - I can't imagine not being able to read.
I do agree with the audio books suggestion (which I'm sure you've thought of!) - I think that's what I'd do to keep me occupied."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0
