I'm currently a member of Fitness First Bristol Harbourside, a platinum club, on a one club only basis to keep costs down. However they've since put their prices up, and speaking to another member he is a blue member of another local Fitness First club with multi gym membership, and pays less than me! Can I transfer or take out a new membership with one of the other local clubs on a multi gym deal and still use my local gym as much as I like? Are you tied to attending your 'membership' club a certain number of times over visiting a different club?

If you live anywhere near Dundee in Scotland you can get one week free membership for a new gym - Good Health and Fitness. They are giving you one personal training session (worth £35), a group class and nutrition and health advice for nothing. Search online for the website and fill in the form - they will get straight back to you.

There is another gym opening up near to us in Warrington. It is one of the Pure Gym group and seems quite a good deal. There is a £10 joining fee and then £9.99 a month for the first 12 months (special opening offer), then it goes to £16.99. You can cancel your membership at any time, so no contract which is good. It is a no frills gym, so no pool, steam room, sauna etc but it is open 24/7 although it is only manned from 8 am to 8 pm monday to friday and 10 am to 5 pm weekends.

I've recently joined one of these Pure Gyms that seem to be springing up all over the place. The gym I joined is in Aberdeen and seems to be quite good (I've only been a member for a few days). I cant speak for all of them but the Aberdeen gym is great. As Alison_b says however you do miss out on some of the luxuries of a gym like saunas etc but for the price (£16.99) you can't complain. Plus a lot of the classes are free which is always a bonus!

Did anyone else sign up to the NHS Choices summer campaign? www.nhs.uk/summer

I have signed up to all 4 categories (Lose Weight, Healthy Eating, Start Running, Get Fit) and am looking forward to the weekly tips coming through for the next 2 months starting next week. (and for my free gym pass!)

If there are a few people that have joined, I have set up a new thread where we can discuss the tips, and help keep each other motivated and update on progress through them.
