    Hi

    Thanks for your replies.

I'm not on the pill anymore. I was but my previous GP changed me onto cezeratte because of a family history of DVT (I haven't had it though). The first month I took it I bled 3 times in the 4 weeks, for about 5 days each time. I went to a different GP at my new practice but my notes hadn't come through so was told to come back in 3 weeks because they can't do anything without notes. I stopped taking it because the bleeding continued.
When I went to the GP today I mentioned this and he just prescribed more saying i'd have to get used to it or get the injection, but didn't actually give me the choice.

The only medication I am on now is inhalers for my asthma but I've always been on them.

When I took the b12 I did feel better with more energy and certainly not as upset all the time, but I don't know if this was just my head telling me I was better because I had medication.

I am getting my bloods tested on Friday so I think I'll wait for my results then see another GP.

I hope you all don't think I'm an attention seeking hypercondriac (sp!!) I only go to the doctors when I absolutely have to so I know the symptoms must be bad for me to be concerned. In 2008 I had a kidney infection but ignored it because I didn't want to waste a GPs time. I was eventually rushed to a and e and in hospital for a week.

Years ago I felt like this and had the usual tests which were all negative. Eventually I was diagnosed with depression (my GP got me to fill in a questionnaire, which made me cry!) and started on treatment. This might not be your problem but it's worth discussing with your GP, if just to rule it out.

I do hope you get it sorted, this sort of thing that drags on for ages is miserable.

    Linda xx

Was doing some basic research into what vitamin tablets have the most B12 in them and found some on healthspan for people over 50 that contain 4µg per tablet . Is that the same as 4mcg? I see daily recommendations are for 2 mcg . Most vitamin tablets seem to have 1mcg of b12 so thought the healthspan 50+ one was unusual

Editing to ask if anyone has the boots a - z vitamin tablets for people over 50 as would like to know how much B12 are in them. They dont seem to show their label info online

Me again. Found one on H&B that has Vitamin B12 1000μg :eek:.
Surely that must be an overdose.

Sorry hijacking your thread boltonangel. Just doing some research for someone I know that I feel may be lacking in B12.

http://nutrition.about.com/od/askyournutritionist/f/b12info.htm interesting info about B12 and the possible need to take it with another supplement(s).

Beginning to think that this may what is causing me issues at present. I'm presenting most of the symptons and just saw the doctor for a diabetes test (which was negative).

The advice was to come back if the symptons, in particular weight loss, continues (it was my first visit to GP about this).

And, I must admit I don't eat a lot of meat as, well, I don't like most meats. But I do eat plenty of eggs.

Mmmm, maybe I should get some supplements and see if there is an improvement. Does anyone know if having too much B12 can cause issues? I don't want to potentially cause a different issue.

Vitamin B12 is water soluble so in theory any excess will just be excreted - did read something that said excess could lead to some cancers (not convinced reliable info), but don't know if this has been published in any peer reviewed papers! Doctors used to give injections of B vitamins as a tonic! RDA is I believe 1 .5 mcg, so if you took this then IMO you would be well below any potential toxicity( even if there is an accepted toxicity level)

boltonangel, I recommend you find a different GP who doesn't think you can tell everything you need to know about someone's health from their jeans size!

If it helps to know you're not alone, there's a blog called First Do No Harm which publishes stories of patients being treated badly because of their weight.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'd just like to say there are GPs who take this sort of thing seriously. I have an excellent GP (actually I see two) who is becoming a pillar of support to me. I have a complex endocrinology issue (actually three issues possibly related) and a nuerological one, and weight just piled on, with health being prioritised all the time. My current GP, in fact the whole team, are so positive and supportive over choices and options for me. I have had drug changes, with their help, that have allowed me to lose weight, and they are readdressing treatment plans with consultants for various issues. The way I see it is that, in the best way, my GP is starting to take a holistic view of my health problems and solutions, looking at what is best for me, not just one condition or another. I am seriously awed by the help I have had since changing to her (and her colleagues). I have to visit weekly, and I feel like a lemon sometimes, and bad for taking up so much time, but I feel that I'm really getting somewhere with both health and weight.

n.b. its perfectly possible to have normal bloods and thyroid problems, mine were revealed by scan, not bloods. My mother had a partial thyroidectomy in her forties, but in her early seventies was rediagnosed with a goitre, despite normal bloods through out, and complaints dating back at least 15 years, by the time she got to see the consultant and was refered to scan, the thyriod had grown down her trachea and into her lungs: turns out her ''asthma'' only developing in her late fifties was actually problems breathing around the thyroid.

The food diary thing is a great I idea. I use the food log on calorie count.com, I find it really, really useful. Most surgeries run a weight loss clinicand a nurse seeing you and diaries over time might well be a useful catalyst to some help. However I strongly reiterate the advisce above to change GPs. My health centre has a website, and you can see what different GPs have an interest in: which will help find the right one for you.

If by iron supplements you mean floradix that also has B12 and folate in it so so may have an anaemia caused by one of them

I've got a copy of my blood tests in June 09 and after having a look on the thyroid forums I don't think my results mean thyroid issues. I can't post on there at the moment though because I am awaiting 'approval' to join.

The tests do show b12 and iron deficiency and appointment req is written on them but I think the b12 is only the lowest side of normal so still not major. The way I'm feeling it should be way down the bottom of low ifswim!!
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!
