    Hi

My interview went quite well I think (it lasted 3 hours!!!) but they won't let me know for 5 more days!

    3 HOURS!!!!????

Sit down and have a large G&T - if anyone deserves it, you do. ;)
  • one of the reasons that B12 gets measured is because the patient is found to be mildly anaemic and the cells are larger than normal (MCV). IME the reasons for actuall b12 def are usually dietary (vegetarians / vegans) and more rarely pernicious anaemia ( autoimmune disease affceting gastric parietal cells)

That sounds positive. Personally - these days I make up my mind within 5 minutes (tops!) - about someone when I see them - and...yes...I am usually right...:D

So - for them to keep you there 3 hours sounds pretty good to me...:D

boltonangel - you said in one of your posts that you had allergy tests done when you were three. Perhaps you should have them done again. Allergies can change over time - you may find you are no longer allergic to dairy - but have become allergic to another food.
I know this because my son who was asthmatic was found to have a dairy intolerance on testing when he was about ten (took nearly seven years before the medical profession believed me when i stated that i believed dairy was the cause of his asthma and his consultant ordered the tests). he was retested recently and found not to be allergic or intolerant to dairy, but he was highly allergic to dogs and not allergic at all to cats! his consultant was so gobsmacked she repeated the test! apparently this is highly unusual! he has a few other minor allergies (grass and tree pollen, tomatoes and oranges).
you may be gluten intolerant, which could account for some of your symptoms.
you can ask gp for the test or have it done privately - the cost isnt prohibitive i understand.

There are literally dozens of Doctor's surgeries all over the country who have agreed that Slimming World meet the criteria set out by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The poster further back who suggested that SW promote 'food combining' is wrong. Slimming World’s Food Optimising eating plans encourage members to eat plenty of highly satiating foods while controlling the intake of energy dense foods. The plans encourage people to freely eat plenty of fresh food like pasta, potatoes, lean meat and fish, eggs and plenty of fruit and vegetables and very low fat yoghurt. Members are also encouraged to eat limited amounts of dairy, high fibre breads and cereals, dried fruit and nuts and to cut down on high fat, sugary foods and alcohol.

Are you an SW consultant by any chance? Notice the above is copied and pasted from the website. ;) I've just checked online and I don't see anywhere that SW meets official guidelines for the 'food optimising' diet itself, only for the style of support which I don't think anyone would dispute:
"The guideline recognises the importance of providing regular and ongoing support for behavioural change – not only for losing weight but for maintaining weight. A pioneer in developing the Slimming World on Referral weight management scheme, Slimming World is able to demonstrate how it meets each of the guidance criteria."
    http://www.slimmingworld.com/health/policies-practices/meeting-nice-guidelines.aspx

I don't like the term 'food combining' as it seems to me a misnomer. My understanding is that SW has red/ green days where high protein foods are kept away from high carbohydrate foods. If so I know many medical and fitness professionals who would discourage SW, or indeed any diet which restricts an entire food group even if that is for one day. Why? For one because the body needs protein on a daily basis it cannot store spare amino acids, two because the body needs carbohydratess for energy and in order to burn fat, particularly during exercise.

There is no sense to me in encouraging someone to eat plenty of potatoes and pasta, but limiting the amount of bread and cereals. I absolutely agree that eating more fresh fruit and vegetables, and cutting down on saturated fat, sugar and alcohol is a wise move. Limiting dairy would concern me, women should have two to three portions each and every day for bone health. Obviously when dieting you would choose lower fat dairy but research suggests calcium from dairy is associated with lower body fat, especially in the abdominal region!

Therein lies the problem - you are mistaken in your understanding as the SW plan does not restrict you from eating carb and proteins together.

I hope boltonangel you get it sorted soon and that you get the job.

I wouldn't pretend to know what you need, only your GP can diagnose.

I will relate the story of my daughter though, as she found a very simple solution.

She was so tired that sleep wouldn't cure it. Was it on this this thread "treading through treacle" analogy? How true. Sheer exhaustion for no reason.
Sometimes felt dizzy, her lips pale.

GP sampled for low iron. Count of 14 so apparently good. Dismissed.

I wasn't convinced. She ate no meat, no fortified cereal and no eggs. So where was the 14 count coming from?

Not to bore you any longer, I found some sachets of iron water from my local health food shop. Totally natural, can give to a two year old.

Put one in a dose of orange juice as I did my Daughter and the effect was almost immediate.

She knows she needs it everyday, but don't we all take stuff only when we feel ill?

The price is £6.99 for a 28 day supply. 25p per day.

If anyone wants to try a little natural iron in this form. Please buy from your local independent, rather than Holland and Barrett.

H&B is owned by the great drug giants.

Hope you get relief soon boltonangel.

    Thanks for that.

I will definately get those iron supplement sachets you mention. Although my iron levels were apparently fine and I eat a lot of food rich in iron I will still give them a shot, and I think I'll put them in my 2 year olds drink too.

For the poster who suggested I reassess my allergies. I am sure that I am still allergic to dairy as it is a very severe reaction so there is no grey area there.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!
