I've posted ion here before but I'll add that free range, and organic chicken seems ot keep longer than badly-treated chicken for some reason. So if the chicken breasts were not free range I'd keep them for maybe three or four days max. But you can freeze them.

We got a ready-cooked chicken from Sainsbury's on Friday night and had the bulk of it with sald.

The carcass and remaining meat is still in the fridge today (Wednesday). I was hoping to make a soup from the bones (not too fussed about eating the chicken after it's been sitting that long). Just wondering if the stock would be okay?

If not, can the cats eat the chicken? They'd bite my hand off for it but I don't want them getting food poisening, especially as one is a four month old kitten.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.

Thought id put this on it's own thread as it's slowly disappearing off the board on the other one.

If you are going to boil up the bones it should be absolutely fine, The boiling will get rid of nasties.

Your cats will be ok with the meat. Remember that they pick up all sorts of stuff when they're playing out.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
  • i bin it after this time...but does it say anything about how long to keep on the package it came in...im not sure if ok for cats ..i dont think id risk it...having said this someone will probably be on after me saying it will be ok for 6 months and arent we all soft

The longest I would keep cooked chicken in the fridge is three days.

If the carcass has been kept in the fridge and smells ok then it might be worth the risk for stock but I don't think I would.

I'll add this to the how long to keep cooked chicken thread now that you've had some replies as your question may help others.

OMG i started to plan my weeks menu for once in my life and found that the rottiserie chick i purchased on Thursday night is still in the fridge in its wrapping.

Would you still use or would it be a bit dodgy?

Not sure what to use it for other than to give it to the dogs??

    Hi Benson,

I wouldn't eat it personally. We have an earlier thread on how long it's worth keeping cooked chicken for so I'll add your post to it so that you can browse the replies.

    Hi Guys,

I cooked a chicken on Friday, but it didn't all get eaten. Would it still be ok to eat today? It seems to smell ok, but I don't know if I should eat it or not.

    Thanks!

At a guess I'd say its ok.
I know I've eaten left over roast chicken 2 days later and I'm still living to tell the tale!
I compared it to how long you're eating left over turkey for after Christmas.....as a child I can remember having turkey surprise (what my mother called yet another turkey dish) a good 5 days after Christmas!
