Theres something about a slow cooker that the contents seem to go on and on, so makes loads more portions than cooking in the oven or on hob. Also time and little washing up works for me.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Bolognaise sauce in mine, for tomorrow. I'm undecided whether to add red lentils or not, as there is loads of it. I only used 1/2 kg of mince, but have bulked out with loads of onion, grated carrots, red pepper, and courgette (so my children eat some veg). I will probably end up putting some in out of habit.
  • Beef in burgundy sauce (red wine gravy basically but that's the recipe title lol!)

In my small one, poached salmon, with new potatoes, onion, courgette, tomatoes, pepper, and lemon juice, garlic, seasalt, herbs, and black pepper.

cheaper cuts of meat are a plus point as well as not having to cook when I get in from work!

apparently, slow cookers use less energy than if you were to leave a lightbulb on for the same amount of time!

Both reasons for me too! Cheaper cuts of meat, less electricity for cooking, less electricity for washing up (I have a vile immersion tank...). Also I live in a small flat and when the oven is on the whole place heats up and it can get quite unbearable, not so with the SC.

In mine today - pork shoulder joint, bed of onion and mug of apple juice.

And in the other one - sausage casserole - sausage, onion, potato, stock.

    nomnomnom.

I have dug my slow cooker back out as I'm determined to learn to love it!

Currently I have a small gammon joint which I am cooking in diluted apple juice, with a few peppercorns, sliced onions and a bay leaf. It smells yummy. We'll have it with oven chips and I'll make some sort of mushroom sauce.
  • I'm making spiced apple butter.I've never tried this before.I'm hoping that it'll be as nice as Black Butter from Jersey.
