  • Thanks for that one Flyinggiraffe, it's on my list to try this week too now - sounds delish *licks lips*

Today I have chicken curry bubbling away - the smell is almost unbearable !!!
  • I've just popped the stew ingredients into mine and that'll be my main meal everything evening this week. Just wish I could get my kids to love stew as much as I do but if all else fails they'll eat heaps of veggies with a couple of mashed spuds and a small serving of stew for the gravy if nothing else.

This week I've popped in the last of some slow cooked beef brisket plus juices that was in the freezer, tin of cheapy beans and marrowfat peas, some sliced leek, about 1/6th of a red onion, three small carrots and a couple of potatoes chopped up, 4 chopped mushrooms, spoonful of bacon jam I made last night (OMG it's a great condiment) and some gravy via the wonders of gravy granules. Oh, and a bit of chopped celery.

As we had roast chicken yesterday I have stripped the carcass and put it in the SC with some water and veg to make some stock.

Will be making some individual chicken pies & a curry with the meat which has been stripped off. Not sure how many pies I'll get but hopefully 4 (or if I'm lucky 6). They'll be quite big pies so hopefully DH will only need one at a time so that will be 4 or 6 portions because I don't eat pies usually. The curry will make at least 4 portions so not bad for a chicken that was bought as part of a 3 for £10 deal!

Manged to get 5 pies with the pastry I'd made so happy with that. They've just finished cooking and are on the side cooling down. Will keep 2 out and freeze the other 3. DH can then either have 2 for dinner tonight or 1 tonight and 1 in his lunchbox tomorrow (which will save him making sandwiches!)

Can't make the curry until tomorrow as need more onions & celery, both of which I like to put in a curry.

Entirely because I kept seeing this thread every day (I'm a Flylady) when I spied a 1.5 litre slow cooker in a charity shop on Thursday I was tempted but resisted because it wasn't on my list. I trotted back there on Friday, bought it and made curried parsnip soup in it that afternoon, yesterday I did spiced braised cabbage and today I've got chickpeas cooking in it for hummus. I absolutely love it. These are all things that I cook regularly and the gas or electricity saved will save us the cost of the little tiddler cost me within a matter of weeks. Go MSEers!
    Better is good enough.

Yesterday I made a huge chilli, the first one I have made in the slow cooker. Today I divided it into two (big family) and popped it in the freezer. We will have it on busy week days.
