It had 10 hours on low,was still quite liquid and another 2-3 hours didn't make much difference.I tasted it and found it impossibly sweet,so I put it down the sink. Not sure what went wrong.

That's a shame. It worked really well for me. Did you wrap the top of the jar to stop moisture getting in maybe? I put cling film on the top of my jar.
It was very sweet but on top of shortbread it worked well.

I covered the top with aluminium foil.Maybe it's just as well it didn't work as I'm trying to lose a few pounds.:)

I cook my Xmas pudding in mine. Have cooked twelve over two days and they are now in the freezer. Will reheat on Xmas day. No steamed up kitchen and saves a hob space.

    Hi All

I am picking up my slow cooker tonight which I am buying for 2 reasons. 1 as the in build one in my oven isn't economical and 2 to help me lose weight. I would like to have soups for my lunch at work each day and if I can make it overnight in the SC and freeze some then I won't be tempted to have bread which I am trying to avoid atm.

So I have a soup recipe from WW called 'harvest gold' which is lovely -
    2 onions, peeled and chopped
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
600g sweet potatoes, scrubbed & roughly chopped
1 butternut squash or pumpkin, peeled, deseeded and roughly chopped
    100g red lentils
    pinch chilli flakes
    1.2 litres veg stock
    salt and pepper
red or green chillies, chopped finely, (optional)

Method: Put onion and garlic into a large pan with 4 tbsp water, cook until softened.
Add the sweet potato, squash or pumpkin, lentils, chilli flakes and stock, cover and bring to the boil.
Turn down the heat and simmer 20 mins until the veg are tender. Liquidise or blend with a stick blender.
Season to taste and serve, garnished with the chopped chilli, if using.

i normally do it in the pan on the stove but would it be ok in the SC (3.5 litre £12 one from tesco) and how long do you think it'd need if it would be?

If not, do you have any other low fat but tasty soup recipes - much appreciated. I am desperate to lose weight and debt! Thank you guys xx

Hi,I've only made soup once in my SC.It was a vegetable and lentil soup.I have a 3L SC.

In my recipe book, all the soups take about 6-8 hours on Low.You preheat the SC on High. You might find that you need slightly less liquid in your soup recipe. It sounds nice btw.

I have the Tesco SC...I had it ages and never used it, since Mum passed away i have cooked full chickens, chicken pieces, something close to a casserole and been surprised at the result and to be honest even on low how quickly things cook but eqally if left longer nothing seems to dry out...

To help keep it clean I do everything in a roasting bag...

Must have a go at some home made soup soon. I too decided to get the SC to save energy but I also have a halogen oven(still to use)and a combi microwave...
