I have a veggie casserole in mine at the moment. Went on early this morning, and is now smelling georgeous :-) I've just put some herby dumplings in. had to make them without suet though, because I forgot to pick some up, did them with SR flour and baking powder, seem to be puffing up ok :-)

Just had a bowl of lentil soup from mine, took me literally 5 mins to prepare :j. 2 onions, 2 carrots, 2 sticks celery, a few little pots going a bit soft. Couple of seconds pouring of lentils, tin toms, mixed herbs, stock cube, garlic, ginger powder, 2 crushed dried chillies, water. Yum yum yum.

Followed it up with a whole pineapple :o. Feel a bit sick now and have 'burnt' my tongue.

I'm very new to slow cookers - only had mine a week! Today I made pumpkin, potato and lentil soup - didn't buy anything extra, used flesh from last night's carving efforts, everything else we had. Needed more seasoning, but apart from that tasted lovely! :D Also defrosted a very elderly loaf and warmed it up in the oven, so it was like newly-baked bread, lashings of butter, smashing!

Have just done a complete food stocktake and found 2 jars of curry sauce - can I just chuck these into the SC with whatever meat or veg I'm using?

    TIA

    A xo

If I ever find I've run out of suet, I substitute cooking oil (butter or marg will also work)

  • I've got the makings of a sausage casserole in mine - just need to add some chopped tomatoes and a Colmans sachet in the morning before I head to work. :)

Some stewing steak, onion, peppers and beef stock. When it's tea time I'm going to move it so a shallow dish, put a puff pasty lid on it and finish it in the oven:D

  • I cooked a cheap joint of lamb in one of my SC for tonight's dinner, threw in the potatoes this morning and just added gravy now and have green beans and mushrooms in steamer as hubby has asked for it to be ready when he comes in about 3.30 - went out at 6am and had no chance to have breakfast, but we cannot afford for him to turn down any extra work. Already got chicken in other SC done double the amount as plan to freeze all of it when its done, but plan to seperate the halves when other one free so can add different things to each night meal. I have no meals in freezer and I need to get some in there for the days when I will not be able to get out of bed or at least downstairs, so hubby then can just heat them up - he cannot cook but heats up a mean bought pizza but I don't want to have to buy things like that any more, to expensive, so determined now to prepare. So when chicken done will throw something else in the SC's to freeze tomorrow. The lamb joint should do today and tomorrow for us.

I don't know if this is the best place to put this, but it's kind of on topic, so here goes...

I was thinking of getting a new slow cooker, the one I have now is only 2 litres, it's 13 years old and doesn't have it's original lid, it's a glass lid from an old set of pans, so I was seriously tempted by the 6.5 litre one from A!DI. However, I have just found one on Curry$ website, still 6.5 litres, but only £13. It's £19.99 instore, but if you reserve it online for store pick up, you pay the web price, not the store price. So anyone thinking of upgrading, it's worth considering. I'm going to go and collect mine tomorrow, I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it home:D

Try and get one with a rubber seal. I've had one for a few weeks and have realised how much steam was lost from my old slow cooker. The difference is considerable. I have tried steamed puddings in both and the new one does not let the pudding dry out, which the other one did.
