Browned off some chicken pieces that have been tossed in seasoned flour and added to SC with chopped leeks and butternut squash. Added about 1litre chicken stock and put on low. Will add some pearl barley too. My son calls this "Chicken with melon" as he reckons he doesn't like butternut squash so I tell him it's melon....MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

Browned chicken breast pieces
Par-cooked carrot slices, potato cubes, onions
Mushroom chunks
Jar of 'cream of chicken' soup (been there for ages and needed using up!)
Some herbs and seasoning
Trying to get back into my SC, made stew on Monday, last attempts before that the meat had been lovely but veg like bricks (now using smaller pieces and par-cooking them while I brown chicken/meat off, prepare all other bits).
I have hand foot and mouth (blisters on hands) just now so good to know dinnner is sorted!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

My slow cooker is the cheapest one that you can get in Argos, which cost about £13. I love it as you just leave it on all day for pennies.
I most often use it for cooking dried beans, which I soak in boiling water and add a pinch of bicarb (which softens the skins and makes them cook quicker) then I rinse and cook for bout 2 hours in the slow cooker. They never get overcooked and mushy this way.Eating Out of the Storecupboards Challenge.

Hope this is the best place to ask for advice on purchasing a slow cooker.
My daughter wants one for Xmas and I've tried looking at review sites and haven't found any that seem to be clear winners. There are 2 adults and 1 child (sometimes a 2nd child is there) so not sure they need the larger one, but I'm open to all suggestions on what's best as I'm totally clueless about them.
I have a 1.5 litre and that give 4 decent servings of stew etc. Im planning on getting an oval 3.5 litre so I can do whole chicken and other joints of meat as my little baby one doesnt have the room for a decent sized joint and veg together0 -
Wow you are the first person i have seen say they have a 1.5 ltr one! ^ i have one too, never used, do you still use a litre of stock etc or follow receipes? it is small ut i have never used one, have decided to make morrocan chicken following a receipe, will make this on sat to test it.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

I tend to use about 3/4 of a pint of stock when doing a stew/cassarole. they are great for a single person or a couple (I get 4 decent servings from mine - but then I do fill it to an inch or so from the top!)
I dont think I have ever followed a recipe for cooking - I just tend to bung stuff in until it tastes nice! I may follow basic parts of a recipe but I get bored or I will follow it the first time but the next time will add other things...!!0 -
I'm doing pork and apple casserole in my SC - will do mashed potato too to mop up all the yummy gravy!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0
