Does anyone know of any fishy SC recipes? OH & I were talking about buying more fish & less meat...don't think I've seen any fishy SC recipes yet though?MFW 2011 #170...£3800 OP YTD - need to reconsider my 2011 target (ooops!)...in it for the long haul...0

I made really tasty beef in red wine last weekend, it was fab, the meat was so tender. I also made roasted red pepper and tomato soup in it.
I hadnt used my SC for ages, as the first time I used it I put in far too much liquid and it was like soup, but not as fine! I am converted now and will be using it loads!:T0 -
Kleftiko in it today, but with chops not a joint of lamb. These were a bargain from the market, an assortment.
First seasoned the lamb then seared it in a pan, took it out, then sliced onions, added garlic, bay leaf, rosemary, oregano. Put that into s/cooker, lamb on top. Then peeled, cut-up potatoes all round the edge. Added a splash of white wine, some chicken oxo, half a lemon, squeezed then cut up. Boiled then poured that all over the potatoes.
Will report back once eaten.0 -
Chicken pieces, 4 thighs and 4 legs
Can of chicken and white wine condensed soup
1/2 can of boiling water
handful of frozen carrots
2 chopped onions
handful of herbs de provence
Going to put it on high for 4 hours and see how it goes. Probably have it tonight around 9 with broccoli and roast potatoes.
Didn't bother to pre-cook/fry the chicken - have done it both ways and don't think it's worth the effort. Rarely eat the chicken skin so no difference taste-wise there and the meat is just as tender without frying beforehand. For a whole chicken I put a paprika rub over it - gives it a kinda 'roasted' colour0 -
can you roast a joint in a sc? i want it roasted not 'wet'. any ideas?0
-
Yes you can roast a joint in a slow cooker. Season as normal, and just put a cm, or so of liquid in the bottom. You don't need to pre-brown, but you can quickly seal it on all sides first in a frying pan, befor adding to the slow cooker.
Sausages, onions, paprika, chilli flakes, mixed herbs, and marigold veg stock today. Will have with mashed potato, and savoy cabbage.0 -
Both my slowcookers were on last night overnight when the electricity is cheaper, in the smaller one i had more dogfood and the larger one had the most enormous turkey leg in that i have ever seen
will get quite a few meals from that and some lovely stock for soup.
MrsEm - i`ve never cooked fish in the slowcooker, it takes such a short time to cook that i would imagine it would disintegratei`d be happy to be proved wrong though
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Most fish is so quick to cook I'd be surprised if the sc would save you any time.
I guess soups like chowder would work in a sc though.
What type of fish do you like and how would you normally cook it?0 -

Do you have a recipe for the beef in red wine? And what did you have it with, rice? And most importantly, is it easy?? 'Cos I've never used my slow cooker before!Mortgage£148,725 Student loan£13,050 HSBC loan£12,221

You can and it works well (nice gentle cooking method, you see) but again, it's not an all day thing (except, as someone said, fish chowder).
Try these three for starters which includes a chowder: slowcookedinblighty.blogspot.com/search/label/fish
Really nice way to cook fish and have hands free around dinner time (handy if you have kids!) but not one to leave all day.0
