2 smoked gammon joints are in my SC today along with water and a few peppercorns!

Some will be eaten as a main meal with veg and parsley sauce, some as carbonara, some as ham in sandwiches and some on its own with pickle as a snack :D

I love ham, but am loathed to pay a fortune for the good stuff, and won't eat the cheap stuff so I make my own! Costs a fraction and its much more tasty :)

With the stock left over, I will make lentil soup overnight :)
  • I've got some goulash in the SC today, although minus the peppers as I discovered we've run out :(

intend to try my first suet pudding in the sc this weekend!

have a new plastic steaming basin, steak & kidneys in the freezer and new packet of suet in cupboard, other items should be store cupboard so hopefully all set for a scummy dinner on sunday.

A kofta curry using some duchy original pork meatballs (not very authentic!!!!) that I bought on a whim, passata, curry paste and some extra turmeric.

Earlier in the week I did an aubergine/pepper/tomato pasta sauce that ended up being eaten cold for lunch and used in a lasagne.

chickpea & bean pilaf. it's still cooking but it's so delicious i can't stop "tasting" the odd spoonful!
brown rice cooked to within an inch of its life is making it deliciously creamy!

my "cup" is a 150ml glass...
cup brown rice, cup chick peas, 1/2 cup black turtle beans, 1 sliced onion, ~1l veg stock. 3 hours on low.
extra 2 cups brown rice, cup pinto beans, diced celery stick, 1 diced carrot, tsp cumin, 3 cloves garlic. 2 hours on high.
This was a completely made up experimet to use lots of beans so if anyone's crazy enough to try it, watch it doesn't get completely dry. Think it's making enough for 4-5 dinners.

The curry was actually really good. Yesterday I started off some chicken stock using chicken wings. It wasn't finished at bedtime so I put it in a bowl in the fridge. It's turned to jelly, which is a good sign. I'm going to heat it to boiling and then put it back in the slowcooker to finish. It will be lunch - probably a greek-style lemon & chicken soup. Then I'm going to do a slow-roasted pork and pears thing for dinner.

I had a slowcooker before but either IT wasn't a good one or the problem was the recipes I had. I'm using the new one a lot, and everything tastes pretty good. The rice cooker function is also really useful.
