Crisis/Budgeting loan

I have just applied to get a Budgeting or Crisis loan and told by both depts. that as I am on Disability Living Allowance I am not entitled.

I want to get a loan so that I can get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle and to include various adaptations so that I can get out and about, plus I need an electric scooter as my legs have got worse. But they cannot help me and I so desperately want to do some voluntary work, but without it I am stuffed!!!

Does anyone know of any place I can get some help? All I want to do is eventually return to work :confused:

What level of DLA are you on?

The DLA money is exactly for the purpose you state, help with care and mobility.

im on dla higher rate mobility and have had a few budgeting loans the fact your on dla has no bearing on a budget loan as you have to pay it back out of your income support anyway.

I suspect a wheelchair accessible vehicle and a scooter would cost a bit more than £1500.

You pay for the cars and scooters from your income (including mobility allowance etc). That's what the extra benefits are for.

I am on DLA Higher rate for mobility and middle for care

I am about to get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, but I need a largeish deposit, even though Motability have asked for £200 deposit, I still need to find another £800 for cruise control, reverse parking warning and a couple of other bits.

I am also about to get my first electric scooter, which is £800 and I need help to buy that as well.

When I phoned for a crisis and budgeting loan I was told by both departments that I was not eligible as I did not get Income Support and that I would have to find alternative funding. Apparently a crisis loan is only for people in real need of help that woould put them in danger.

So, I'm up a certain creek without a certain instrument!!!:confused:

Does the following apply to you:

A Crisis Loan is for something you need at once:
    • in an emergency, or
    • because of a disaster,
    and the help you need:
    • is not available from anywhere else, and
    • is the only way to stop serious damage or risk to you or your family's health and safety.
I don't know anything about them; but I'm usre you can get grants from motability for car adaptions?

I wouldnt say cruise control and reverse parking are an emergency. Just get the car without them. Cruise control can only really be used on motorways anyway, you shouldnt do your daily town driving with this on
