I am on DLA Higher rate for mobility and middle for care

I am about to get a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, but I need a largeish deposit, even though Motability have asked for £200 deposit, I still need to find another £800 for cruise control, reverse parking warning and a couple of other bits.

I am also about to get my first electric scooter, which is £800 and I need help to buy that as well.

When I phoned for a crisis and budgeting loan I was told by both departments that I was not eligible as I did not get Income Support and that I would have to find alternative funding. Apparently a crisis loan is only for people in real need of help that woould put them in danger.

So, I'm up a certain creek without a certain instrument!!!:confused:

let me get this right you are looking for £1800?if so then no chance.
however if you get a motability car you will give up your dla mobility,so why not save that for the £1000 you need for the car,it will only take you 20 weeks?????

I haven't thought of that - But on the other hand the idea was not to take money away from a Charity as they need it for others, but it was more of a loan that I required and no one else would give to me. But I might just have to though

    Thanks

If you are determined that a loan is the only way forward then why not a bank loan?

If you and your wife can afford to save for a trip to the South of France, why can't you afford to save for this item?

Because my trip to the South of France is to see my Family, so the accomodation is free and all I need to do is pay for the hotel overnight. It's a very cheap holiday therefore.

Driving to the South of France (in your tax payer funded transport) isn't "popping out".

So, I'm not allowed to do what you guys do now???

I feel like you lot are discriminating against someone who is disabled!!!

You're acting like Bank Managers for God's sake.

Let's just say that I'm glad you lot are not in my position - You'd be bitter and twisted - You wouldn't have the ba**s to survive - You'd be whingeing and crying.

    Goodbye Fools
  • Stop being self-pitying OP. You've been given sound advice about why you are being turned down for Crisis and Budgeting Loans from the Social Fund. You don't meet the criteria, end of.

I suggest you either save up for the extra things you want or do without them.

As has been already said, the things you want a loan for are not emergencies. If they were an essential part of a mobility car then they would come standard, but they dont!
If you want them you will have to pay youself as there is no way the government will give you the money for it as theres not a loan/grant etc available for those items
