Lil_me that is what used to happen but in the autumn they said we could put cardboard and foodwaste in them and they would collect every 2 weeks throughout the year. Our last collection was about 6 weeks ago! They are jokers. When the roads were bad fair enough but then they said they put all the crews on refuse - to my thinking if they'd have collected the brown bins it would have encouraged more people to use the system.

    - well done on the ironing.

In a bit of a CBA mood now. Going to do a HHC in the kitchen and then I may venture into the garden - it is too wet on the lawn to do much but I might sweep up the almighty mess the birds have made under the crab apple tree - looks like they have tried to make cider.

    re bins!
We have about a 4 week gap (over xmas) where out green bins (cardboard and garden waste) aren't collected. They were collected last Thursday though and mine was almost full of card.
What we have missed is blue box collections, last one was 11 Dec. They didn't come on 25th dec (can't think why;)) and should have come on 8th January but they missed it, they will come this Friday. Most people round here though are keeping them, and the blue bags out in the hope, I suppose, that they'll be collected. Well they will - on Friday
Now that the snow has all gone I have found the earring I lost on 1 January. I figured it had dropped out as I was getting in the car and I just spotted it peeping out from under a plant - undamaged despite the snow, ice and trampling feet!:T it was a Christmas pressie!

Washing on the line!! We still have snow at least a foot deep in the garden. I went out last night on roads where the snow is still 5-6 feet on the verges.

DH has started to clear the paving now so we can bring cars back to the house. Chicken in a brick for dinner later and wet washing hung around the hall.

My flying mission today is to sort paperwork which I failed to do during the three men watching TV phase as they were in the way.

Mudbath hugs and prayers for your friend, her family and you.

Well done on finding your ear ring Valli

re: bins, Ours haven't been emptied since 15th December. That is general waste too. You should see our bottle/can collection. It is 10 miles to nearest bottle bank at this time of year so we will just wait until they can be collected.

Not much done yesterday whilst girls were out at their party. But manage to sort out top of Fridge Freezer. Do have a niffty tip for all you lovely peeps out there. Once you have cleaned the top of your fridge/freezer cover it with cling film - when you come to clean it next time it turns into a 2 minute job as you just peel off the cling film with all the dust and a quick swipe, replace the cling flim and done! I had done this last November, forgot to clean the top before Xmas and when I did it today it was so easy. Hope you all find this helpful

That's a useful tip Sabs - will add it to my own tip about covering the tops of cupboard with newspaper to stop them getting greasy. Just one proviso -make sure you don't cover vents - it's very imprtant that the air can circulate freely around them (and that's why they shouln't be in cupboards/confined spaces unless they are designed to be built in!)

Sabs - trouble is though that clingfilm ends up in landfil. Just wiping out once a week is fine and doesn't add to the rubbish ;)

Glass/cans I have no idea when they last collected - I think it may have been the week before Christmas. Managed to get rid of ours when we were going past the dump as all the bottle banks here are full too with piles of bottles at the side. People here have left their recycling out all that time. Nobody knows when they will turn up - I check on the website and take mine back in but it is disheartening when you put it back out and they still don't turn up. Streets around here have not been clear of rubbish and recycling since before Christmas.

I think AF maybe turning up tonight I am in the foulest of foul moods and have gone mad at DS2 and DH (he took DS3 to DS2's football in his new ski/school coat and it is covered in mud so it is in the machine now but I doubt it will be dry by tomorrow). DS2 is being an indecisive pain and wants feeding again so I've told him to get his own now!

Going to do a mad HHC in the kitchen next

Dusty we're only allowed to use ours here for garden waste, where I used to live (another part of the same county) we could put kitchen waste in but we moved....it's so confusing. :rotfl: @cider, I remember watching a documentary about monkeys who left fruit to ferment then had a party. We have - bag for card/paper/plastic which is always too full (and I have 2!) plastic box for glass/cans which rarely is full (this was for paper/card previously too until they changed) normal waste and garden only waste. My sister has a blue for all recycling apart from garden/food which goes in another then another for general....that is what I would prefer as the box and bags blow everywhere! She is only 6 miles away.
Poohbear most of ours has been collected on Friday but like you it was 17th December since the last one, before that for recycling. Pleased it's starting to clear up where you are, I know it's still there but it's a start.

All the mention of rubbish I've just been out sorting our recycling out, it was all in carriers which got blown around the yard as I couldn't find the bags under the snow. I've found those and they are now full.

I really need a 3 section (or more) bin for in the house, if anyone knows where I can get one. No utility to use my old system

Done some of the kitchen, will do some more in a mo. DP just got back and his mood doesn't seem to have changed so I can hide in there.
One day I might be more organised...........

Tried to post earlier but lost it I think. Service went really well and they asked when I was coming back! I managed ok on my foot, had to sit down a couple of times but ok overall.

Ready for another star and I reckon I should get all five this week as I will only need half an hour in the bedroom sorting out stuff to chuck! Getting rid of manky make up felt good yesterday and I sorted out some socks this morning so only 2 wardrobes and a couple of drawers to go!

I'm watching casualty from last night and DH is pottering somewhere! We're going to the pub later with one of his mates and then to drop off a nice bottle of wine for the friend who looked after me when I hurt my ankle on Tues. DH has decided he doesn't like roast veg so I'm doing roast potatoes, spiced red cabbage, parsnips, broccoli and carrots with the poussins. I think I will make some tomato and red pepper soup for lunch at work on Tues (out tomorrow!).

Friday ~ Childrens/Spare rooms.. or any other room you have neglected - All Done! :D

ETA: Recycling is a nightmare, I wish they would come up with a nationwide system! I've lived in at least 4 local authority areas and the best was when I lived near soappie and we had 2 wheelie bins, one for landfill and a bigger one (collected fortnightly) for recycling! Here we have a normal bin plus 2 coloured recycling boxes that we have to keep indoors to stop them being nicked!
