IA's New Life Diary!

Well here I am again.... part... god knows... of a long running saga that is me and my debt. Those who remember me will know the background. I joined this site in October 2006. I was married with one child and another on the way. I had joint 16k worth of debt with my husband and we were very close to going under. Living off my husbands wage, and benefits.
Fastforward to now. My husband and I have been separated since October 2008 after 6 1/2 years together. I am now a single mum to 2 children, Ashli aged 4, and Kaitlyn aged very-nearly 3. I live with them and my sh*thead cat, Lewis, who is named after Martin of course. (The previous story of dealing with our debt was covered by Martin on his show It Pays to Watch, I was on it twice in fact! God that seems like so long ago now...).
Because of the inital dealing with the debt, I began work as a volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau. I was a volunteer for a year and am now a paid Advisor and Money Advice Assistant, currently training to become a full blown Debt Advisor and eventually an approved intermediary for Debt Relief Orders once I have some experience under my belt as a full blown Debt Advisor. :) I now work 18 hours a week, and after a year on Income support, am now mostly self sufficient and not reliant on benefits which feels great and those who know me will understand what a big step this has been and what a horrible year 2009 has been for me.
I'm happy to now say that things are finally settling down. My divorce is due to be finalised any day, the girls and I are all happy and healthy and settled in our new life. I got together with my now boyfriend in March and things are great, so much so we've been together very nearly 8 months and I've yet to find any 'typical bloke-ness' or tw*tism in him which much be a good sign :D. Life still has it's ups and downs but on the whole things are much MUCH better than they have been for the past year and a bit.
This leaves one monkey on my shoulder. Approximately 1300-1400 worth of credit card debt. Unfortunately because of having a year on benefits running up some debt was unavoidable. I was debt free previously but then things like occasional treats to keep myself sane while going through hard times and things like my washing machine breaking down. I'm not even going to pretend that my situation is anywhere like other users of the forum. My debt is manageable, it's not causing me problems and I can afford it. It's really just about time, now my life is settled, that I sorted it out and got the monkey off my back.

So here I am! Back in the game I suppose... I know damn well that this diary won't be anywhere near as inspiring to others as my first ones were. I'll dig the links out to those in a bit, and come back with a FS and full update in a bit once I've got all the details and worked out a budget old school styleee. :D

For now a couple of recent pics, to help with the continuity for anyone who remembers me and remembers my old diaries :)

Woohoo, new diary!! You sound so happy and positive. Obviously don't know OH but from what I've seen on FB, he seems lovely, and you're obviously very well suited.

Well done for keeping your debt manageable, that's the most important thing after all. I've no doubt you will get it cleared though.

Will we see the return of the whiteboard? :D
