    ...I've just complete 24hr since 4pm yesterday test on the sitting room 1500w heater,it's kept room at constant 17c from 10pm to 7am and then agan 10am to 12.30 and 2.30pm to 4.30pm. 7am to 10am is 21c as is 12.30 - 2pm and 4.30pm to 10pm.

It's used 13 units = been drawing power for 8.6 hrs out of the last 24.

You'd be better off on E7 with storage heaters if you intend to keep the room warm 24/7

I thought you meant you didn't mind leaving the room cold for extended periods during the day (not that you can't control the heat output from modern storage heaters anyway)

I'm sorry but if you check this thread someone has already commented on how my running costs are similar to their gas.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

If you can show me a supplier that sells electricity at less than 4p per kWh all day long, I'll join them today!

Tell you what, even allowing for a poorly rated 60% efficient old boiler, lets say less than 6p per kWh :rotfl:

That means nothing if you are not comparing like with like eg; size of rooms, size of property, thermal insulation etc. etc.

You seem to be attempting to justify your purchase of this over priced system to a lot of people that know full well they are no better than any other standard forms of electrical heating, they just cost a lot more to buy.

Ha ha, no meant it all belted out and was gone before we settled for evening.

We had a creda tsr24aw, and it still didn't suit us. Could be design of house with the original front door (managed to create tiny porch with an extra door but still lose a lot when your going in and out) going straight into the sitting room. And stairs leading of the sitting room up to landing, whatever it just didn't work for us

if paying 11p per kWh costs £4.62 per day.

I am using 130 kWh per day for heating and hot water (on 24/7 at present) which is costing me £3.90 and 12 kWh of electricity at 10p per kWh costs £1.20 so I am at present paying £5.10 per day so I suppose JennyR68's 42 kWh per day for heating is comparable with gas CH at this time of the year.

    Rob

No idea what his boiler is like, sorry.

Let us take your 13 units - that is 13kWh and assume you are paying 10pence per kWh. so that has cost you £1.30.

    Two statements:

    1. Any other electrical heater would have produced EXACTLY the same amount of heat for those 13 units.

You still seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that somehow your 'magic' radiators produce more heat per kWh of consumption than lesser heaters.

    2. A gas boiler is not as efficient as electrical heating. The efficiency ranges from 90+% for a modern condensing boiler down to perhaps 60% for really ancient boilers - even 25+ years ago 65% was normal.

So to produce 13kWh output a gas boiler would use between 14kWh and 20kWh. Now gas costs from just under 3p a kWh to 4p a kWh.

So to get the same amount of heat from gas CH(as you got for your £1.30) it would cost between 42p and 80p.

Looks to me like it's costing me about the same as them to heat my house.

I am under no comprehension about 'magic' radiators. And I have no more to say on the subject. I'm toasty and warm in the comfort of my front room for the first winter in 20 years, perfectly happy with what it's costing me and absolutely nothing you can say will burst my bubble.

Bet you insisted the earth was flat in a previous life!

The " Flat Earth Brigade " are those that just will not face facts or reality, it seems to me that it is you that fits bill quite nicely.

If your only source of MAIN HOUSEHOLD HEATING is ELECTICITY the the new generation STOAGE RADIATORS are for you . As for back up heat PANEL HEATERS are very good, Do not go lower than 900w they do dot have a thermostat just a on/off switch. Very safe to use in small childrens bedrooms when wall mounted. The low BACKGROUND HEAT is good and cost Penny's to run:T
