My gas and electric use in 1 day- sound right

Options
Hi,
Can anyone please tell me if this sounds about right for a small 3 bed semi home. since yesterday i have used 112kwh gas i have heating on from 7am till 2pm in afternoon and then from 5 till 8.30pm at night, costing £4.18 on british gas meter ( according to smartmeter)
my electric is 12kwh a day costing £1.43 a day . Do these figures sound about right i'm trying closely to keep an eye on what were using at the moment as we seem to be topping up our gas meter by £40 every 10 days which seems an awful lot to us.
Will be great to hear your views,
thanks

Electricity sounds fine, perhaps could be a bit less. Gas is slightly high but nothing to really worry about.

I'm guessing the figures above are an average per day, although it doesn't say so!

Your consumption sounds about average during this colder weather, certainly nothing out of the ordinary. Some will post to say that they sit around a candle to keep warm so only spend tuppence a day on energy, but most would agree with your figures.
  • brilliant thanks for looking at my post and your replies you've put my mind at rest that were not really using much more than anybody else. I was just concerned that my gas meter was gobbling up money at the mo but if its about right then i shouldnt worry to much just have to put up with being skint over the next few weeks. I 've think i've learnt a lesson and thats to keep topping my meter up even in the summer to help cover the winter months. My central heating is old and does need replacing so i know its not the most efficient in the world.
  • thanks for clearing that up it is nice to know its running about average. cheers :j

Have you considered switching? Your rates work out to be 11.9p per unit of electric and 3.7p per unit of gas. Whilst certainly not the worst, you could certainly get it cheaper. Who are you with?

    Hi,
I am with british gas at the moment. i have just (yesterday) looked into this and i am switching to ebico for gas. my meter says i am on 10.36p per unit for electric and 3.409 for gas. they are both on a meter, key for electric and card for gas. my last years annual use of electric was 3272 kwh and gas 11427kwh although my gas meter says m3 on the end so do i need to change this figure anyhow or would this be an actual figure it just doesnt seem a lot for a year when you read an average for a 3 bed is 20000kwh?
