one man's pointless post is another man's treasure
Agreed - I don't think the chat is going to stop! I would certainly miss it, for me it is an important part of the whole challenge and helps maintain interest. Besides, a throwaway remark that Sparky made gave me an idea for an 'angle' for another website I'm doing ... it's surprising where ideas come from ...0 -
With posts like ours just now its not a good thing to say but it should maybe just be ideas and updates. Iv seen alot of poor pointless posts.
I've seen a lot of really well meaning and encouraging posts too. Some of the jokes have triggered ideas which I have gone off and researched and PM'd people about, which may help in their quests. If this was a dry place where people post figures achieved and straight, clinical ideas, I for one will be off to try and find somewhere to give and receive encouragement ... maybe not a bad thing for everyone with some of the nonsense I post but I think it would be a shame. Many of the ideas in this thread are available all over the MSE site already, so if the line of thinking continues we would miss those out too and just punch in our numbers. In that case do we need to report numbers at all or just have a line in our sigs ... I am not trying to be contrary, I just like the thread how it is. I do get where you are coming from and as I have said before think the thread will settle down ... already I think there is a higher proportion of advice to chat than there was at one point."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
I reckon just numbers in our sigs is fine, mind you ... I got all sigs switched off so it dont matter what people put in them cos cant see them <sticks tongue out> ! Lol.
Off to watch emmerdale !!!!!!!!!!!! OOOEERRR .. not one to miss tonight (or tomoro)!0 -
Ok back for a few mins after doing my self-assessment for the last few days. All finshed and paid phew!
Don't worry if things are a little slow at the moment sales wise, remember...- It's January = no-ones been paid since Christmas yet
- The weather is dire, which means no car boots, not much in the Charity shops (if it's icy outside not many people are going to risk the pavements to take their items to the shops), no jumble sales/table tops etc
In the meantime sell what you can, make things to sell when fetes, craft fairs start, and research research.
Off to do my last essay  of my course back at the weekend!!!

Scrooge - in regards to the books, I had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago, i only wanted to pay £3 for a lot of books in my area though listed for £5.99 or so, I waited to see if anyone bid right up until the end, no-one did and they went unsold so I emailed the seller and offered her £3 to get rid which she accepted. Hello from member 179! (i think!)
When i look at what i have done in 13 days £25/£10,000, its really disheartening! i mean what have i been doing for 13 days, i have made one purchase for £65 and sold for £90.
I have been doing DooYoo but that money is to be money neutral for xmas
The day just seems to go by so fast, and i feel like ive got nothing done - doesnt help with a 1 year old to entertain!
I get up at 8am, and go to bed around 11, so where has my day gone! i am so envious of people reaching £100s already!
Really love the tread though :j
there's a lovely story that I will have to dig up and post on here for you and everyone else... but for now I just wanted to say this.. every small action you take, every small thought process all adds up in the long run. This is the "Slight Edge" and there's a great book written about this by Jeff Olson.
He says all these small things are so easy to do, but they're also so easy NOT to do. So when you don't do them you'll say to yourself, ah well there's always tomorrow... But when you do do them, you might not see a result straight away, you might get a result in a week, a month or a year... but had you not taken that small initial action it would never have resulted in the positive outcome!
Don't get disheartened! you have a 1 year old! yet you're trying to do this challenge - well done you ! in my opinion, having a little child around that needs caring for, and multitasking that with entertaining them as well as all the resultant chores that come out of that as well as a job if you are working is a much harder challenge than earning £10k! I have a 4 year old and i'm struggling
Don't forget its all relative to what you enjoy, what market you can tap into and what you can get out of your hours. Some will make thousands, others hundreds... but you'll still make something!£2022 in 2022 - £1042/£2022

Agree with Amber and Sparky and i've already made a few posts about this subject before on the thread so dont want to repeat it.
I'm starting to feel there's some regular posters now on the thread and its a chilled relaxed fun buzz. Please lets not keep asking to keep chatty posts to a minimum... then what would be the point of a thread. Then everyone can just go off and do their own thing and just fill out a line once a month. We'll lose the inspiration and the buzz and perhaps wouldn't reach our target!!
However just imagine this... the thread continues, the chat and the jokes and the advice grows.. and people are a few thousand pounds richer as a result...
I don't know which scenario we will be at in December 2010... but I sure know which one I would like it to be...£2022 in 2022 - £1042/£2022

Does anyone have any experience of having an Amazon Pro account, I know that it costs £28.75 a month and that I will need to sell over 34 items to make it worth my while but are there any other pro or cons that I need to know?
I am looking at buying books in bulk and then putting on Amazon but the margins are quite small (I made a bit of a spreadsheet that works out with and without a pro account for a batch of around 50 books that I have seen for sale and the difference at the lowest price point (if they sold!) means that I would make around £10 more on the pro account)
No experience of Pro account but I am trying out over 50 of my own books at the moment and I can't say it is a fast market (only 3 sales in 2 weeks), so, depending on titles that you are stocking you may need to have hundreds if not thousands of books available to turn over enough in sales to reach the point where a Pro account makes sense. It was mentioned earlier that Pro account holders get a payment for each book sold (that is why so many paperbacks etc can sell for 1p) but that end of the market is pretty crowded. I think to work off tight, low margins in any market you need extremely high turnover to make it viable long term. It is worth working out all the angles though and seeing what shakes out with some trial efforts."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
Somebody asked before if in Selling Manager when you mark something as dispatched does a message get sent to the purchaser automatically or do you need to manually generate one ... I would really like to know this too as I was working off the assumption a message was sent and so may have been showing poor communication if it is not."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0
