Thanks for that. I know what you mean about no physical time. I am a full time mum as well and I home educate my children. Although we do get out and about all over the place and know a lot about whats going on locally etc.
I wish I could make a career/ business about finding things out for people - I'd be in my element.
My MIL has a friend local to us who is a teacher but wanting to get into story telling but not sure how to go about it. Found her loads of information from organisations, blogs and websites on all different aspects, practicalities, pitfalls etc as well as great resources for stories. Also ideas of local places and organisations for contacts for getting bookings etc. Just like challenges like that. But there doesn't seem to be a moneymaking avenue for it.
Done similar stuff for friends about general stuff like info on setting up a website or busines or just info about an illness.
Not much inspiration for you yet nixinixi - maybe cos you sound a bit like me.

I am planning to do a car boot soon, have never done one before so I am a bit nervous about the whole thing.

Can anyone tell me what sells at these?

What about pricing things, I have no clue.

Thanks all, for all the great ideas. I have only made about £40 extra so far but I am keen to try out lost of the things people have suggested but the only problem is that there are so many!

Thanks Jo! I briefly considered home schooling.....I admire you for doing it! I'm like you I like a challenge, but also not good at doing the same old thing day in day out...probably why I have had a few jobs!!

Maybe between us we can find a money making opportunity to suit us!!? :rotfl:

There are companies that do this sort of thing for clients, acting as virtual PAs as it were. Each PA handles a number of clients (many executives don't get PAs nowadays or they are totally bound to work only duties) so these companies fill the gap ... finding theatre tickets, booking restaurants (and getting best tables etc.). The only problem from your perspective is that it often involves physically going to places to get things done e.g. Picking up shopping, preparing things for dinner party etc. but it may spark a related idea and/or help someone else. I can't for the life of me remember the company name I saw featured on a documentary about this a couple of years ago. I liked the idea as it had a parallel to something I was doing at the time and the company seemed to be run very well. If I remember the name or bump into it again I will let you know.

  • Tonight I invested my first £1.98 of my £100 on ebay I managed to get 16 pairs of shoes for 99p and an xbox 2 controllers and a load of games also 99p so hopefully this will turn itself into £40. Was starting to worry I'd never find anything to spend the £100 on!

*raises her hand* ok who has been peeking?? LOL, this is pretty much what I do......long story. In fact I am now looking at expanding things. I found a bit of a niche and may I also say that his has been a VERY interesting day to say the very least. I started out this year saying that this was going to be my year, especially after last year *broken marriage, losing everything etc, this year is going to be MY year. I really dont believe that luck comes to us, I believe that we find and create our own luck and that there is NOTHING in life that we can not have or achieve as long as we want it bad enough.

ok, many apologies for waffling on a bit....think it is the late night and the fact that I am still working. I have never felt so motivated and a big part of that comes from all of you here. I am addicted to this site and if there is anything that I can do to help anyone here, my email is always open!!

    Love and hugs

Just wanted to say, great thread and great idea.

Have only got to page 29 on the first thread but Ill get through it.

Read that someone made a spreadsheet with ebay costs, postage costs etc.

Has anyone got one they could send me please?

Im going to register with ebay and paypal and start selling stuff Ive got sitting around the house. Got to admit that the though of this is quite daunting but Im guessing the first step is the hardest. Im sure Ill get the hang of it, I havent got anything to lose to why not I say.

Few questions about listing things on ebay.. Is it generally better to have the starting bid at the minimum you want for the item (say the price you paid so as not to make a loss on it) or have the starting bid at 99p and taking a risk on losing money on it?

Also for bigger/heavier items, whats the best way to post? royal mail/parcel force or courier? If courier, has anyone got a good one, pricewise to use?

My only other worry is that Ive got no ebay feedback and that people will be weary about buying from me to start with but I suppose everyone started with none when they started..
