I already have two bids on some of my items I listed yesterday. Looking at £3 profit on one and about £2 on the other, hopefully they'll keep going up!
I guess I really should try selling my artwork as that's my strong point, but maybe I need to buy some nice clothes to wear for visiting gallery owners. I tried a couple local galleries but my subject matter isn't "the type of thing that sells well with our customers" their customers want flowers and landscapes, Yawn!! Trouble is that although I know my stuff is really good (even the gallery owners admitted that much), I don't know how to promote myself, I really lack the confidence to push myself forward especially face to face, I get so anxious. Anyone fancy being my agent?...my website link is in my profile ;)
I'm really impressed you've been to galleries, I daren't actually take my work anywhere I'm such a wuss!

Managed to sell a pair of tracksuit bottoms for 99p, I am quickly turning into a 99p shop lol. I tried bidding on a mannequin which was in its final hour at £1 but someone was using a snipe programme which bid up every time I did so I gave up.

It might not have been a snipe program but just the way ebay bids work. If I put a £10 bid on a 99p listing it appears at 99p and ebay automatically bids for me up to my £10, if that makes sense. Most sniping software kicks in at the final throws of an auction to try and grab something without having revealed your hand earlier in proceedings.

I found this under opportunities on the full circle arts website. There are all sorts of jobs and opporunities listed there
This one is based in Manchester. The other thing they do is based around films so maybe some of your stuff like Brief encounters and film actresses would go down well.
Contact details are on full circle arts webpage.
"Deadline: Ongoing Cornerhouse is now renewing its call for submissions to Cornerhouse Projects – our regular exhibition strand dedicated to North West based artists.
Cornerhouse Projects is an opportunity for early-career artists from the region to exhibit their work in Cornerhouse’s public spaces. It is now taking advantage of new developments in the building to provide opportunities for a greater diversity of artwork.
In addition to wall-based 2D work in the Caf! and Bar, and moving-image on LCD screens, there will be opportunities to present online or computer based projects, as well as performative, music or one-off events.
As one of our core programmes, Cornerhouse Projects has a unique relationship with the international art and film events taking place in the rest of the building. It takes advantage of Cornerhouse’s location in the city, acting as a focal point for a wide range of people with an active interest in film, contemporary art and culture.
We are seeking proposals from artists, curators and other creative individuals and groups, who wish to present new or existing work. We are especially interested in ideas that engage with context, our audiences and our position as a social hub in one of the busiest parts of the city." .
    Don't know if that helps.
Also I live quite near you and am just thinking of a few other local ideas but will think them through a bit more before posting them.

Does anyone have any advice on how to move on up from listing stuff on Ebay for 99p?
I've been listing stuff from around the house - or anything really that anyone was going to thow out, at 99p - and guess what? Most of it sold for around 99p!
Now I want to start making some more "serious" money, I've tried BIN listing - hopeless.
Trouble is if you've paid £4 or £5 for something you really can't list it at 99p - I'd be into negative figures pretty quickly if things actually sold for that and the BIN listing costs - well, list a thing a few times and you may as well have given it away!
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Mrs Money,

Been there ! see it done ! got the book & the tshirt. I think most times its a hit or a miss & sometimes find myself wondering why did they not buy MINE :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Nowadays I tend not to relist immediately if others are selling the same item as me, I wait until there all sold & then re-list.:T:T:T:T
As someone said earlier its a bit about timing & planning selling stuff for the right occassions ie : valentines day / mothers day / fathers day xmas etc.
It means having the stuff lying around the house, bit of a pain but its money to be made in it eventually.:eek:
I don't think that for me fleabay is a quick fix.

Well no one had bid on the item at all and the auction did not say that there was a reserve. So I bid on the item then it said I had been out bid. The auction also did not state that the bidders ID's could be kept secret yet the other bidder was just down as "bidder 1". Ah well.

Oh fair enough if no one had bid at all it seems a tad odd ... wasn't meant to be ;). One good thing about ebay is that there is always another product to bid on. :).

I agree about the zodiac series - was just going to suggest the same thing about limited edition prints, a really unique and amazing present for someone. Do you have an ebay shop? Or just generally list on ebay? There's lots of original art on there - I even purchased a piece myself a couple of years ago

I hadn't really considered ebay...thought it might be hard getting noticed, I might give it a bash though.

    Right second try:

Marketing and development is my area - and I can think of ideas for other but not myself! hopefully some of these will be worth doing!

Can you offer pet and person portraiture? If so:

Contact a few professional photographers.....offer them a small fee for any fully paid commision work, this work could include pets, weddings (offera special memory of the big day in the form of a piece of artwork - for this you can hopefully use one the professional photographers photos so you know the quality will be right!

Contact your local paper and offer a portrait as a competition prize. You need to decide if this is best as a pet or portrait or wedding...whichever offers the most future profitable business ideally. This will get you editorial coverage with the competition, if you can the names of all competition entrants (leads!) which you can then follow up with a special offer for entering the comp....eg 25% off if order before end of month, also you would want a follow up editorial with a photograph at the handover of the winning portrait...ideally quite quickly after so regular readers remeber the competition and you!

Go to craft fayres/wedding fayres/ have a stand in a shopping centre showing your work, with sale prices on! (you never know!) also offering a commision service....you would need leaflets, or at least business cards with your website for this but could be worth a go.

On your website advertise your services, with an order form, or at least email for more information. But also add a page showing how it works best...eg if you have a 6x4 photgraph the subject needs to fill at least an oval this size (do it visually as people understand that best) or I cannot fulfill your order....offer a consultation if they do not have a usitable picture...eg pet has died etc

Right I know I had other thoughts too but for now cannot remember them...I think fi you want to make money from you talent then there are many opportunities for you, intially it might take some promotional/minimal outlay work (as above) but you would soon recoup these costs and learn which are the best avenues for you and lso once you start with word of mouth you could have a fantastic business....as long as you can make enough money per art piece that is. Make sure you offer promotions throughout the year too....eg in the pet portrait offer in the run up to christmas, wedding/engagement portarit offer over valentines day etc etc

Now just need some ideas for me, wish I had a talent like yours!!

    Good luck!

    HTH

Never even thought of the wedding angle and there is a bridal shop just around the corner whos owners do all the wedding fayre thing, I think I'll be popping in for a chat, especially as I used to work with her daughter once upon a time. Your ideas are fantastic nixinixi, I feel bad that I'm drawing a blank with helping you and others out! :o

Well I bought six brand new Nintendo games in a 3 4 2 offer. At the time they were selling like hot cakes on ebay for around £4.50 more than what I bought them for, so I thought there was a profit in it. Now the market for them has gone dead. Also DS has claimed one which has eaten into my profit margin further :o.

I have just joined Amazon and listed them there to, so we shall see how we go.....
