  • my only concern would be that recently craft fairs seem to be flooded with the same thing my sister does these and recently there were 12 people with the same or similar products out of 50 she was assured verbally this wouldn not happen!!

like I said every 'deal' is a risk but there are ways to limit this .........

The point is I have sold over £70 worth of stuff yet why am I still in negative?

none of us can really answer that for you.. you sort of have to do the sums and see where your money has gone.

Its hard to ask people to give you ideas specific to just you - the best way is go through the thread from the beginning and pick up hints and tips. everyone here is trying to make some money as well, and its unfair really to ask people to spell out to you exactly what you think would make you rich? You need to find that out by yourself, and go on that journey and discover the pitfalls as well as the successes.

If you saw that sims were selling and you were so confident that yours would sell what went wrong? Where the ones which sold a different network? Where they special in any way? What made you decide on Tesco sims? How did you get them? If they were easy enough to get perhaps others know that and refuse to pay for them? How did you layout your auction, did you give it some pizzazz etc etc - so many different questions and all are there for you to analyse what went wrong so you can either fix it or make sure it doesnt happen again..

You can quit, as you suggested .Or you can go on.

we cant make that decision for you - but once you make your decision and decide on your course of action - Then - we can support you.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and not everyone has the ability to be a salesperson, a marketer, a purchaser and a trader and buy and sell and become an overnight success story - otherwise we would have all done it years ago and the MSE forum wouldn't even be in existence as no one would be in debt in the first place!

to be honest with you, and please don't take this the wrong way, I get the feeling from your posts that you just expected wealth to happen over night. I remember quite a few pages back you said you bought something for £30 and sold it for £60? or so? what was that item? is it still in demand can you do the same transaction again...?

I suggest you take some time out - get out a blank sheet of paper and list all your areas of interest. Then take the time to think Laterally and see what you can add value to - as someone already said, Dont just think of EBAY - think outside the box, your skills, your job, your friends their skills, their jobs, your hobbies as has been mentioned already.. You'll be surprised what you can discover if you give your mind some quiet time and focus on this one task.

It's all research research research.. and even if you think you've done as much as you could.. Stop... take a half day off and look at the situation with fresh eyes and reanalyse again before you make your spend. That way you're not just impulse buying stock.

    best of luck indie.

Indie I think everyone else has given fantastic advice and all I can do is suggest to you that it is a rarity in life to encounter a group of people who will support you through thick and thin and help motivate you and also tell you some home truths when they are needed. I really hope you stick around, dust yourself off and keep thinking of the possibilities of life rather than potential pitfalls. It is how we deal with defeats and roadblocks which make us who we are.

One thing I would suggest is to write every single thing you have spent down systematically, including stock price, listing fees, paypal fees, final valuation fees, postage, transport etc. and get a real understanding for the figures involved. How much stock do you still have? If you can't value the stock, itemise every single item and think if there are any ways of adding value. By getting your head around the figures and an in depth understanding of the costs involved in a transaction, you will be armed with the knowledge to realise in future which deals, that at first sight look profitable, are not. Good luck with the process and pipe up if you need some help with it.

Just a quick update before I drag myself up to bed. I sold a cd on Amazon - my first ever sale on there :j. Profit was the princely sum of £2.08 after fees, but for a single cd I only ever listened to once, it's not bad!

I finally made the decision to talk to Sky about the astronomical charges I pay out each month. Didn't get as far as I wanted - I was trying for HD box for free and no increase in charge (well you have to aim high :p), but couldn't get the extra £10 per month charge down although I got the installation fee knocked off. However, since I was calling to try and decrease my outgoings, I resisted and cancelled my movie package and told them I would be talking to Virgin Media with a view to moving. I can do without HD and I'm hoping, though not sure if it'll work, that they'll offer me movies for free at some point, as I know they did that with my bro in law. I certainly have no intention of leaving Sky as the limited dealings I've had with Virgin were enough to make me seriously lose my rag - not a common occurance.

So the outcome is that I am now £16 per month better off. I wasn't going to add it to my sig as it isn't actually money in the bank, but after thinking about it all day I've now created a new direct debit to pay the £16 straight into my savings account each month. So I've added 12 months worth to my figure! Yay!! That looks so much better.

I'm sure there must be a thread on here somewhere about Sky - I'll start searching tomorrow when I can keep my eyes open. Keep smiling everyone, it's a good thing that's happening on this thread. ;)

    Morning campers:p
I woke this morning with my brain buzzing. It's not been doing that too much lately due to illness but it feels good to be getting back to myself.
My ebay stuff has been going ok with a few decent amounts and all from stuff I would normally have given away. Some things I've sold I should really have kept back till nearer the summer when I reckon I would have gotten more but hey ho its all about learning as you go.

Indie when I joined the challenge I had no idea of what I was going to do. My initial £100 was swallowed up by a very unexpected bill as have my ebay sales so buying to sell is not really an option until I get that sorted. So I had to start thinking laterally. A throwaway remark by CTC ignited something in me and gave me my way forward. The idea is a simple one and a very definite niche and most importantly won't cost me a lot of money to start up. I've researched it and it definitely looks viable.

Because I'm thinking so positively I've now started to see opportunities in lots of things around me . None of them are "get rich quick" ideas and all involve a lot of hard work and no quick returns. But by the end of the year I hope to have a viable business, oh and of course £10000 in the bank :D. I'll always aim high because I just might get there.

If it's a get rich quick scheme you're looking for you're probably better off buying a lottery ticket, you'd have a better chance( not that I'm advocating lottery tickets):p

And probably the best piece of advice I've taken from here is to do something you know a lot about, makes all the difference:T

I really hope you find something you can work with but only you can figure that out .
Hope you find what you're looking for
