Disiplinary and facebook

On friday afternoon I went on my tea break and came back to my desk to find a letter addressed to me (not marked private) from the office manager inviting me to a disiplinary on monday morning with regard to my low call stats. I have no contract that actually states it but we have been asked to do at least 50 calls a day and mine are probably 85% of the time under and very much under. So to be honest I not surprised I've got it and am already aware of why i rarely meet this target Also as The MD doesn't like me and has been trying to find an excuse to get rid of me over the last year that he's been there.

Anyway when i was invited to the disiplinary I did not mention it to any of my colleagues, so as far as I was aware up until now. The only people I knew that know about it is my office manager and the MD. However I have just logged on to my facebook and as usual just reading all the entrys on the home page for what my friends have commented today and found an entry from a girl, who sits next to me, commenting to an ex-member of staff which read:

"Suzy's up for a disiplinery on monday at long last sick of her! She did 13 calls on friday and I did 60 what a joke so will keep you posted on how that went!!"

The other person then replied: "OMG lazy !!!!!, yer deff"

Not only can I see this but so can all our mutual friends which not only includes my colleagues and ex colleagues but the Chairman of the company and one of my account customers.

So my question is Can I use this as evidence in the disiplinery that this has been put on facebook? This is my first ever disaplinery and i had been warned about it before about last august, but it wasn't official. The office manager is always "slagging off" members of staff in the office and then disaplines them so i am already aware that when the others had disaplinerys (infact i'll be number 5 out of 6 this year)
Any advice would be much appriciated!

The OP said they just logged on so I assume they literally mean now/today rather than in work?? I can't comment on disciplinary things but I'd be majorly peeved that it got out on facebook for all to see, regardless as to what you did or didn't do i'd screen grab it for the meeting as clearly something that should have been kept on the low has found its way to someone who didn't need to know about it, and posting anything work related on facebook is generally a no-no, espesh something that delicate.

  • Sorry i should have explained two things:

1, Face book entry was today. i work monday to friday and don't use facebook at work although others do (thats why they got a disaplinery)

2 The job i do is telesales but has no targets. We are encorouged firstlky to gain as much profit through sales as possible. I am generally 3rd or 4th int the office out of 6 each month for sales. The person eho made the comments has beaten my sales twice in the last 10 months that shes been there and one of those i was on two weeks holiday. On friday she made 60 phone calls and generated £220 for the company, i made 13 calls and made over £600 profit. This happens must of the time. One particaular day she had made over 100 calls and made £98 profit and that day i made £900+

Er... you expect the OP to be working at 12:41am on a Saturday night / Sunday morning? Read the post carefully before replying with silly comments like that.

OP, if the disciplinary hearing is down to performance and you admit that yours is falling well below what is expected then all you can do is put your side across as to why and defend yourself. [Edit] If you make less actual calls than most but generate a higher profit for the Company, I'm sure this will be taken into account. The Manager is being an !!!!! if he's only looking at call numbers and not overall performance.

In regards to facebook, it wouldn't hurt to print the page and have a copy just in case, but I can't see it affecting the disciplinary at all, it'll be a separate issue.

    Good Luck.

Im sure they wouldn't want to work for you either, what with your head so far up you A*se it would be hard to communicate with you :D

Why do sad pathetic people like you feel the need to come on to forums that are meant for HELPING people to belittle them?

Does it make you feel big, make you feel superior? Or are you just an a*rse?

I doubt you talk like that to people in 'real life' situations, you probably wouldn't say boo to a goose.
  • Each member of staff has a database of customers approximately 500 each. we are expected to call all whether they are users or non users. We sell office consumables. So aswell as making these calls out we also have to answer calls coming in from customers wishing to order, do quotations for them and phone suppliers to source product and best prices. Call stats only count if someone answers the phone and the call is over two minutes long. Calls to suppliers and calls met by an answer machine (even leaving a message) doesn't count.

OP I think best thing you can do (apart from listen to tw*ts on here trying to belittle you for whatever reason) is take a print screen on facebook comments and after the disciplinary meeting has ended on their part and you can ask questions, ask them if this information has remained private. Likely they will suggest it has. Tell them you have information to suggest otherwise and that you are extremely distressed that the information relating to your call rates and performance has potentially been party to others. Tell them you want everything put to you in writing in the first instance before you elaborate to them about any evidence you may have to suggest that this has been discussed outwith management.

Well something doesnt add up does it?

Priority number one for any company is profit surely, if what you are saying is true then why the disciplinary?
I had a similar experience when I worked at Currys. My sales target was rarely achieved, usually I was at about 85-95% but my margin target was normally well over 110% (sometimes 150% and more!). My manager liked to point it out to colleagues and tell them that I was selling "smart" and making good money for the company. They should learn a thing or two from me!

Then my manager left. His replacement saw the situation quite differently. I was often explaining to her that my "quality" sales took more time and focus, reducing my volume of sales. She brought it up a few times in the weeks I worked with her and her perspective is that with my ability, I should find more of a balance and work towards achieving both my sales and margin targets.

I suggested that my margin could suffer if I tried to grab every last sale and rush through them, she didn't seem to care. That's an issue we remained split on until I left the company.
