Disiplinary and facebook

  • we're paid a percentage on the about of profit we make. if i decided not to phone anyone then i would get less salary. so i would be harming not only them but myself if i didn't make a sale.
  • Busterian may I ask a few questions?

If I go in at 8.30 and ask for a postponement do I tell them its so i can contact Acas? Also what happens if they say i can't postpone it?

If they agree do i then email the grievence to the MD straight away? my querie is that in the past where people have tried to complain about the office manager to him also he does is email her the details and tells her to sort it out.
We have no HR person anymore as she left in novemember, so i have none else to go to. I can copy in a email to the chairman of the group but equally he is the same as the MD. so if i email the details of the grievence then they will be fully aware of this prior to my disiplinary for call stats. knowing the way they work they will then try everything to get rid of me at that meeting.
  • Forgot to say prior to the MD starting if the chairman wanted someone gone he'd get rid and they'd go to tribunal or he would make their position redundant. All past tribunals were won by the staff as the chairman didn't care that he had to pay out. However since the MD was appointed he made sure that there were no further redundancies but made it impossible for at least 12 members of staff over the last year to do anything but resign. He frequently admits he prefers to let the cat amongst the pigeons and let us tear each other apart. he thinks all the !!!!!ing and backstabbing is great.and thinks we should steal each others sales like he used to when he was a sales rep.

I'd go along to the meeting on Monday, and be as calm as possible.

Tell them it's the quality of phone calls made, not the quantity, and if they would like to look at how much money you've brought it, then can see that you do much better than some of your other colleagues.

I'd then show them the print out of the facebook page, making it clear who wrote the comment and who agreed with it. I'd also point out that this is bullying, particularly as their performance is below yours, so very unfair for them to say this.

Perhaps you should suggest to them that they put a board up in the office, showing the average amount of money brought in per person per phone call. That way you'd be somewhere near the top!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think the whole idea of pitting salespersons against each other is awful. I no longer work in this kind of environment (though I'm still in targeted sales), but I always found that it put more pressure upon us...and not in a good, healthily competitive way. I found that it would tempt people even more to resort to poor sales tactics (and then get suspended, even sacked for doing so), in order to be 'up there' with the 'best'.

Agreed that quality of sales should be what the OP's office should strive towards. That way, ideally, they'd all strive towards bringing in the most revenue via quality channels, rather than playing a numbers game based on volume of calls. In that kind of environment, though, b!tching and backbiting is often unfortunately inevitable :-/
    £1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50600

HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500

    "3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600
  • we have a sales board where we record our sales during the day. the office manager then adds to this sales on system during that month, sales invoiced and occasionally call stats. Call stats are given at various times during the day so no routine time also they are given by either her reading them out, emailed to everyone, written on the board or written on a piece of paper and screwed up and chucked around the office to each of us to read. I get more sarcastic comments from the girl on facebook than the office manager who prefers just to give an evil look
  • i should imagine to be honest as soon as i try to bring a grievence about either of these two people i will be gone. the md doesnt care just wants the fly in the ointment gone

Hmm. Is it just me that's getting the feeling here that they don't have the money to pay her (and the commission) and so want to get rid of her as cheaply as possible?

Errr...nope...for once I agree with you...
  • i certainly wont be looking for another job in sales but will return to either admin or retail if i can or even look at something entirely new. ironicly things had only just started getting better for me and the other half after the last 8 years of struggle and i got a year and a half left of my iva too. so i will have to find something extremely fast

Typical Woody makes observations based on conjecture. I really dread to think what your poor employees have to put up with on a daily business.

In a nutshell i'd say they have to put up with a moron..:D
